HI ALL,
Just me again I know alot of you have been to the chiropractor and i need some input please. I went there today because ive had ongoing headaches and alot of tension and soreness in my neck and upper back. Ive heard this can help alot. Anyway im expecting some massage therapy or something to that affect, instead he checks all my vertabraes and does some x-rays and then adjusts my back and neck. It felt like everything cracked in two when he did this and tonight my neck is sore as hell. My question is,is this the norm. ? He told me to ice if im sore. I thought this was supposed to make you feel better? What do you guys think? |

Oooh, when it comes to the back you MUST ask me. I have been through it all. From what I am finding out you seek treatment for the problem. Meaning I go to an accupuncturist now for my back because I have some herniations and a lot of degeneration (Im only 31). I used to go to a chiro and my mom still does but for my specific problem the chiro adjustment might have made it worse. My accupunctrist is also a chiro so I trust him (He was not my chiro so I trust his opinion).
Anyway - to answer your question, it is normal to have some soreness after. Especially your first time but not everyone is patient. If you are just in minor discomfort you might want to look into massage therapy? Please write me with any other questions. I am an expert on back pain - lol Ali |

Thanks alioop,
I appreciate your reply. So do you think i should just go with his plan or ask for massage? I have to go back 2 more times this week and 3 times next week and i dont know what else he wants to do. He says i have some vertabraes that need adjusting,he didnt say anything else was wrong. Let me know what you think? And thanks again |

First I would ask you why you went to him to being with? Also, did he take an x-ray? Let me know this stuff and I'll let ya know if you should still go (My opinion only - you should do what your heart says is right)
Ali ps - I dont know where you live but here in NY massage can be very expensive. Is the chiro cover under insurance for you? Does your insurance cover preventitive medicine (accupunture, massage etc...) |

My chiropractors office offers a massage therapist right there on site. So sometimes I go in for a 1/2 hour rub prior to my adjustment. One thing that is very important when you are getting an adjustment is to make sure you have consumed plenty of water that day. Dehydration is one of the major causes of us leaving the chiropractors office a little bit sore. Those muscles need to be flexible and without enough water inside of us they just aren't in the best possible condition.
I would stick with it. I also get that stress headache that seems compressed right on each side of the back of my neck. And truly where it is generating from is the long muscle that runs down the back of your neck and along the top of your shoulders. Kind of underneath your collarbone. Sometimes just pinching that muscle can alleviate some of the headachiness while you await for your appointment. Shawn. |

I go to a chiropractor. I started to go because of neck pain and dizziness. He has helped soooo much with that,
Sometimes I was sore but never where I was uncomfortable. You really have to find a good chiropractor that adjust gentle and really can read your x-rays to benefit you. Being adjusted can help you stay physically healthy too. I am no longer sore from adjustments , no neck pain and knock on wood, no dizziness, Let me know if you have any other qustions. jt p.s. Did you get that other test done. The endoscope for the reflux. Just wondering because you were helpful answering some questions for me. |

HI ALL~
Just wanted to give you an update. I already did this once and this stupid computer deleted everything it took me a half hour to type , so i was mad and didnt retype it,then my computer was down yesterday so i couldnt be here. Anyway~ ALI~ Went back to chiro yesterday and had more adjustments and did some electro-therepy on my shoulders(felt good)no soreness afterwards.Massages are extra, done by a separate therapist. And yes he did take x-rays the first day to show me what vertabreas were out of sinc. How do they remember where to adjust you the second time you go in without looking at your x-rays? briggslady~ I drank alot of water yesterday like you told me to,felt great all day! jt~ Yes i had the endosocopy all went fine, results were fine~just a little irritation down in the bottom of my stomach. Am continuing on prevacid. thanks guys |

This is totally normal. The sounds you heard were oxygen being released from tight muscles and tendons.
You are appearantly holding tight in this area and the adjustment loosens everything up. The fact that you are sore says you musta really been holding tight. It kind of feels like sore muscles after a good workout of muscles you haven't used in a while. It is very important to start using your relaxation tapes, start a walking routine or something relaxing to loosen up these muscles and change you ways. Otherwise, you will continue to hold all of your tension in this area. ------------------ Don't take anything personally. Always be impecable with your word. Don't assume anything. Always do your best! |

EastCobbGABetsyH, you took words right out of my mouth. That was an excellent explaination about soreness after first couples of adjustment.
Kristen, massage is not a part of Chiropractor's normal practice. Although they do recommend massage as part of a treatment quite often. Your body told your chiropractor exactly where needed adjustments, probably more than what the x-ray did, to an experienced chiropractor at least. drop |
