HEY EVERYBODY JUST ME AGAIN- AGORAPHOBIA
I WAS HOPING SOMEONE COULD GIVE ANY EXTRA ADVISE OR IDEAS OTHER THAN WHAT I`VE LEARNED SO FAR WK.3 INTO THE PROGRAM ABOUT GOING BACK TO A PLACE I DEARLY LOVE, BUT HAVE HAD PANIC ATTACKS BOTH TIMES I`VE BEEN THERE?(BROWN COUNTY INDIANA FOR THE FALL FOILAGE).I AM SO EXCITED ON ONE HAND BUT ON THE OTHER I AM VERY SCEPTICAL ABOUT BEING ABLE TO USE WHAT I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR IN AN UNFAMILIER SETTING. PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS

maybe you get anxious because it's a place you like, and going there means you'll probaly feel good, which could be stressful, if have a hard time enjoying a good moment. Try relaxing, try telling yourself that your going there for a reason, which is ok, and that you'll be fine.

Back when I was in your position, I remember going up north to some property I have. I just love going up there. Anyways, I went up there and boom.. same thing.. I had a panic attack. At first it scared me... "will I ever be able to come here and feel great again?" But then a good friend of mine with whom I confided in all the time asked me a simple question. " Would you rather be back in the city having a panic attack? or would you rather be here having a panic attack?" he went on to say " If you absolutely insist on having these panic attacks, you might as well do it here, get it over with and have a good time afterward!!!" That made so much sense to me, even in the heightened anxious mode I was in. Funny thing though.. I never had another panic attack up there after that. Probably because before, all I could do on the way up there is think about whether or not I was going to have a panic attack.. but after that, I didn't care if I had a panic attack. That put me in a more relaxed frame of mind and poof! no more panic attacks! Hope this helps. By the way.. it's been over 10 years since my last panic attack.. this program was the only thing that helped me. Keep going!!!!

I agree with Woodywp and MGoldberg 100%. If you try to think you won't have one or be constantly afraid you will....then you definitely WILL have one.

If you go up there with a mindset that I probably WIll have one and I will get it over with and enjoy the foilage and beautiful scenery and not let it stop me than you will have a wonderful time.

The obsession of them is the gasoline. Your fear of them is the match.

Go have a great time! Life is too short!! Live Kristen, choose to live!

Aloha Kristen,
If you say it's a place you use to enjoy then the next time you're there try not to fuel the fear. Next time when you get there try sticking in the present moment and enjoy the company and the atmosphere.Remember the good fun times you use to have there. Let me know if this works for you.
