Hey apdavis,
Yes I have hyperhidrosis. Have had it since childhood. My hands, feet, and underarms used to literally DRIP with sweat. I used to avoid shaking hands, holding hands, or even letting a person use a pen after me to avoid questions like, "why is the pen wet?" In school I couldn't write on paper without another piece under my palm to "blot" the sweat from seeping through. I tried lotions, medications, even electrical impulses... nothing worked. I finally had the surgery done back in 1997 or '98. At the time only three surgeons in the U.S. were doing ETS. I had to fly to Texas (I live in Florida) to get the surgery done. The surgery was a success. My hands are completely cured of sweating. My feet are probably 75% cured and my underarms %50. When I get nervous, I notice I start sweating around my chest, stomach, and back. I also notice when I'm eating certain foods, my face starts to sweat. I would much rather sweat around the trunk of my body than to endure the embarrassment of shaking hands with my wet palms again! So what other areas are you experiencing sweating in?

At least you have the option to reverse the surgery. I don't have that option. My nerves were completely cut in half. Would you say your compensatory sweating is mild to moderate or moderate to severe? Mine is mild to moderate and only when I'm nervous. Usually I can pass off the sweating to the Florida weather. One thing that helped me was using baby powder or some type of talc sprinkled on to my chest and stomach. Hope it gets better for you!

I have not been diagnosed with anything, but I've always had a problem with my underarms. I used to be so embarrassed to go out with certain color or material shirts on, because I would get these huge stains all the time. I still have problems with that, but not as much. The real problem for the past 6 years or so is my head and neck sweating so bad. Sometimes it's so embarrassing! I have cut my hair short, and even that doesn't help. It doesn't even have to be real warm out or anything, and my hair will be wringing wet. I feel so embarrassed when it happens at work or out in public. Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe it's something with hormones or something.

it could be hyperhidrosis. i would schedule an appointment with your doctor and get a referral to go see a specialist. underarms can be controlled by botox injections under the arms. as for face and neck and everything...thats pretty hard to get rid of. im hoping in the next few years they will come up with some type of cure for this. its just a quality of life issue.

Hi Tracy,
Sounds like hyperhidrosis to me, especially given your history with extreme underarm sweating. Hyperhidrosis affects different areas of the body in varying degrees. Some people only experience sweating around their face, head, and neck where others only experience it under their arms. I had it on my hands, feet, and underarms. asdavis is right, you should see a dermatologist or other specialist to see what your options are. Good luck!

Hey Conner,

I'm so excited about trying that! I just ordered it. I hope it works. Sounds so much better than the other treatments.

Thanks,

Deb

Hey Conner,

That sounds so great! Its really debilitating isn't it? I can't wait to try this stuff.

It would make life so much easier if I didn't have a big target in the shape of wet armpits in public that said "EMBARRASSING". Its all good and well to say people don't notice, or its no big deal. But when it doesn't go away, and people do notice, and people are embarassed and I am embarassed, I just feel defeated. I want to get out of social situations asap. Even though otherwise I might like to stay and see what happened. I wish I were 'bigger' than that, but I just HATE it. Thank you for your post. I'm really hopeful because its worked so well for you.

Hey Conner,

Thanks so much for the info. I just got the antiperspirant and no wetness at all. What a relief. I can't believe how much that affects my life. I can walk around without a jacket on or trying to cover up all the time and after just one application.

I did notice a little itching, but I wonder if it itches when your body is trying to sweat, but it can't come out? I noticed a slight burn when I put it on. But the itching came about 12 hours later at work and only lasted a minute or so.

I think I do. In stressful situations or non threatening ones too, I start to sweat on my forehead and scalp and then it just starts poring because I get more embarassed because I think everyone notices.

Has anyone had any success from facial and head and neck sweating. I work in patients homes and they don't use air sometimes. It looks like I just got out of shower. I am going to a dermatologist in a week.

I have always thought it was anxiety, but I wouldn't have as much anxiety if I wasn't dripping sweat in public off my forehead and scalp.
