Hi,
I was at my mother in laws house and she was checking her blood sugar, and so I said Hey check mine, IM over weight and 44, Dumb move, My blood sugar was 176. I know it's suspossed to be like under 120. Now I will have to go to the DR and have it all checked out. I ate some candy today, but I guess it is still high even if I did eat candy. Does any of you have diabetes?

Hi,
I don't have diabetes but I have many customers that do. I own a health food store and the first item I would recommend taking is Alpha Lipoic Acid or ALA. It is amazing at stabilizing blood sugar levels and it is totally safe. I have several customers that stopped needing their insulin after taking ALA for less than a year. Obviously that is something that should be monitored very closely. Why are you going to the doctor? You already know what he is going to say, lose weight and cut your sugar intake. Save your $80 co-pay and buy some ALA or something to help take off the weight. The recommended dosage of ALA is 100mg to 200mg. Also, there are several products that will help reduce carb cravings without drugs. Good Luck.

One blood sugar test and a reading of 176 does not make for a blood sugr problem. What did you have to eat and how long before your blood was taken?

If you have a real concern, get the test done by the doc that gives you an average over three months of your sugar. Never mind taking health foos supplements. Just watch your diet. Lose a little weight if you feel you are overweight and it might make a diff. If you start taking anything that effects your sugar, you could lower it to levels that may make you hypoglycemic.

I AM diabetic and take no meds or anything and keep it under control.
Good luck

Cathy - Get yourself to a doctor. The fact that you have lost 10 pounds without dieting is a warning sign for diabetes. My Mom went from a size 18 to an 8 in a very short period of time. She was glad to lose the weight, but she was also diabetic and simply didn't know it yet. It is true that the doctor may just tell you to lose weight and change your diet, but why play around with your health? It is true that one blood sugar reading shouldn't freak you out, especially since it wasn't over the top high, but in light of the weight you have lost, I think you'd want to be sure.

Please go get it checked.

nodoubt,
Thanks, thats what Im going to do. I have to wait until July due to the fact that my husband started a new job and we had to wait 6 months. I am going to follow the diet and check my blood sugar and if it gets worse, or If I really start to feel bad, I will go to the free clinic.
