I seem to have notice that abuot 1 to 2 weeks before my cycle starts, I have anxiety attacks as well as heart palpitations in the form of skipped beats.
Does anyone know what causes this or has anyone had their hormone levels checked to see if this could be the problem?? |

I never had it medically checked out but I definetely noticed an increase in anxiety around my period. As a matter of fact it got to the point that I would have 2 good weeks and then 2 bad weeks every month. It took me 2 years to make that connection. Sheesh.

It's strange someone else notices palpitations at that time also. I've read about that happening to many women before their cycle!I had my doc. run some tests but everything was o.k.Of course that was years ago so I'm still nervous when it happens!I'm also alot more likely to have panic attacks during that time!Like we need PMS added to all of this!!

Hi. I've noticed that I get them really bad the day before. I have had 2 instances where I had a high heartrate the day before. The last time I had a run of atrial fibrillation and had to go to the hospital, the doctor mentioned adrenaline causing the problem but when my period came the day after I blamed it!! huhhh....the things we have to go through. Believe me I am NOT looking forward to menopause if there are slight problems now.

I have increased heart palpitations when approaching my time of the month, but that isn't the physical symptom that usually gets my anxiety going. It gets complicated around that time: trying to determine which symptoms are menstral related and which ones are anxiety related. Either way, it's good just to be kind to yourself no matter what the cause is. Don't think that you should go harder on yourself just because you're still encountering symptoms of anxiety, as opposed to being able to deal with the pre-menstraul signs.
Whether you are feeling bad because of stress or because of your cycle, you still deserve to be treated good and affectionately. Instead of getting caught up with the fact that you are experiencing some symptoms of anxiety, briefly acknowledge that fact and move on to the more pressing matter of "How you are going to treat yourself" now that the symptoms are there. |

Thank you to all of you who replied.
I am sure glad that I am not the only one who goes through this. I can't tell if it is from anxiety or my cycle either. I just finished wearing a 24 hour heart monitor and will keep you all posted as to what it found. Thanks again. E mail me anytime kittenishere67@yahoo.com Lisa |

I have to get one of those 24 hour monitors too. BUt i don't wan to to find out if there really is something wrong with my heart. I have been told by lots of people that my chances are slim to none at my age of 22. I get the heart beats slowed down and you all get yours faster. Why would mmine be slowed down and not faster like all of yours. That is why i wonder about all of that. I had a blood clot in my leg 3 months ago and it was from a car crash i was in. But if any one can hlpe me out with all of this that would be great.

I totally agree with the increase feelings of anxiety before my period. I just keep thinking about the self-talk from the Lucinda Bassett program i.e. how I will get through this...whatever it may be and it is okay to feel anxious...It will pass and I can just go with it. ...self talk can really help...along with putting soft instrumental music while you work....also watching your breathing. It is amazing how it becomes second nature sometimes to do all these coping strategies. My life has completing changed because of how I constantly monitor my thinking and breathing!
I went 28 years with all this anxiety and negative thinking even though I was a "happy" person.....If you could look inside I was a mess of "shoulds" and "what ifs"

I have to say that 2 weeks before I get my period, I have PVC's (premature ventricular contractions). They seem to come around the time I would ovulate and go away completely the day I get my period. I am checking into it now, I have a message into my obgyn and am seeing my cardiologist this week. The strangest thing is, is that I went to a cardiologist last year around the same time and he made no mention of it.

Believe it or not the 2 days before my period are usually calm and relaxed--totally panic free. I just got a new primary MD and am going to ask him how we can figure out if I have a hormonal imbalance or something.
There's a women's health site that seems like it is helpful, are we allowed to post addresses here? If so I'll post it. Thanks, Staci |

I have them too around that time of the month. When I went for my last lady checkup, I asked the question. I was told that they can be caused by change in hormones. They are still scary at times when you get them more often, but usually harmless. I had my heart checked a while back for an unrelated problem, (an echo), so I don't worry much about them, especially now that I see the pattern. I have had them for the last few years and I'm still here!
