Hello
Just wondering if anyone here has had sinsus surgery? I have chronic sinusistis and it is just getting to be unbearable. : (I use to get it every three months or so. Maybe 4x's a yr. Now I seem to be getting it every other month, sometimes lasting a full month and it starting up again within a week or two. I have had a # of MRI's to check for regrowth of a previous brain tumor, so they are able to view my sinusus everytime. They always say the same thing..no tumor but a sinsus desease! I am done with the antibiotics. How many times a yr can you acually take them? There worthless. As of tonight..I am feeling done. I have had a fever all last night and today and couldn't bend over to save my life (brain my explode) Eeker lol Does anyone have ANY helpful advice? I take advil for the aches/fever, hot compresses for the pressure and do the neti nasal wash twice a day. Sometimes I will take a decongestant, however I tend to avoid any med that makes me jittery and anxious (which a lot of that stuff does). It all helps...but please. It is what it is. Has anyone had this procedure and was it worth it or of any help? Thanks!

Christine

I have chronic sinusitis and I had the surgery a little over a year ago. I guess you can say it has been helpful some, but I live in a city that is horrible for sinuses. But I have had less sinus trouble...just weigh out yout options and if it is that bad, then I say have the surgery. Good luck and God bless.

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know that I did have the sinus surgery in 2001 and it did help with my sinus problems. I also did have second opinions before I had the surgery. Still have problems with sinus but not as bad as before. Still have anxiety issues.

I am so sorry to hear about your sinuses... I too suffer (it has been since April).I am going for allergy shots, but I am so concerned because I have never had it this bad. The other night I had a horrible sinus headache and I felt feverish. The next morning the fever feeling was gone but my ears felt a little clogged. Is this what you feel. I am so anxious that it is something worse or that my body has finally broken down from all the anxiety over the years. It is very uncomfortable and I want you to know you are not alone.

Thank you guys for all of your input. I really appreciate it. I know that my anxiety seems to rise up when I'm not at my best. I also think that the anxiety is causing this in a round about way. Catch 22.

lisadi - Have you tried a neti pot? Someone on this site recommended it. It seems to work well. I just started one about a month or so ago. My sinus infection went away a lot quicker then usal. I also am going to try the sinus rinse that was recommended.

Thanks again for your insight. Take care.

Christine

I feel your pain (literally). I have horrible sinuses, and I've had a sinus headache for almost a week now. I called my doctor and we have switched from Flonase to Nasonex. I'm hoping that will help. I take Zyretc at night and the nasal spray in the morning. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. Our weather is also horrible, so I'm sure that's the cause of my headaches this time around. I've considered surgery, but that will be a last resort for me. Lots of people have had success with it, some haven't.

Good luck!

You have to try the neti pot. You can buy them at a health food store. I think I paid $15 for the pot and $4 for the salt. Within a day or so my sinus tention went away. Your to use it twice a day or as needed I suppose. Works wonders!! Let me know if you give it a try. Take care.

You guys are super! I'mlearning something new all the time. That's the first I heard that anxiety causes sinus problems. Makes sense since I've had both all my life. My trademark is kleenex. Kleenex in my pockets, in the dryer, around the house. My husband gets so upset with me.

I'll check with the health food store on the neti pot. How do you use it? Will it work for hay fever? My son and husband are really suffering. We've had the windows shut most of the summer cuz of the humidity and now when I'd like fresh air they say no and are sneezing, running and burning eyes, headaches. My husband is supposed to sing with his group tomorrow and its affecting his throat. Any suggestions for that?

Hey Christine,

I know a few people who have had sinus surgery. Two were due to a deviated septum(s) and the other was due to chronic sinus infections. I want to tell you that the surgery in relation to chronic sinusitis really doesn't have a very good track record. In fact, the guy I know went back to sinus problems right away. He had his sinuses "stripped". They pack your entire sinus cavity with gauze and then they pull it out at your follow up appointment which I was told is excruciating. My brother almost passed out from this.

My advice to you would be to focus on stress reduction, healthy diet and natural supplementation. Believe it or not, there are natural anti-biotics on the market called
biotic-silver ( another name for it is called silver biotic and/or Colloidal Silver ) They have all types of articles available online and they have it in a nasal sprays as well as other preparations.

In the book... "Breaking the grip of dangerous emotions" by Dr. janet Maccaro ... chronic sinusitis is due to the underlying emotion... IRRITATION. Hmmmmm....are you irritated alot, perhaps stressed out and frustrated? According to this doctor, the best way to address the infection is by using Biotic Silver or grapefruit seed extract capsules and nasal spray, olive leaf extract capsules and for congestion - breathe easy tea; vitamin C 3,000 milligrams daily, echinacea extract, 15 drops in water 4 x's per day. And to boost immunity she recommends astragalus capsules, B complex with pantothenic acid, Kyolic garlic capsules as directed. She suggests that over-the-counter drugstore sinus medications only suppress symptoms and may drive the infection deeper into the sinus cavity. She says that natural medicine goes to the root of the cause.

Of course, practicing your relaxation tape daily and balancing your stress level along with physical exercise and drinking at least 10 glasses of water each day.

Hope you find relief... I know it can be distressing to deal with sinus problems. I've had them myself but not nearly as bad as you have. I have used nasal sprays w/ Xylitol ( which is made from sugar and it works by coating the nose so that bacteria cannot stick to the inside walls).... I think it's good for a preventative measure but after you treat your problem and find some relief first.

Smiler

Wow! Thats some great info! I am going to copy it and give some of this a try. I have heard of the biotic silver. I think I may have come across that while I was searching the web one day. I too believe that this is stress related. I follow a lot of energy type healing and it all points back to STRESS!! Working on that area. Big Grin I did break my nose some years back. I have noticed that it is more effected on that side. I think bacteria just doesn't pass as quickly as it should normally, leading to an infection. I did know of someone who had the sinus surgery. I remember her telling me about the gauze being pulled down. Said it was painful. I have lost contact with her or else I would have been picking her brain. Last time I had an MRI (4months ago) they had saw a benign "appearing" tumor in the sinuses. I haven't went back. Thinking it's just something semi normal for someone with this type of issue. Confused Guess I should go back in. Thank you for taking the time to share this information with me. I appreciate it. Take care.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will definitely try the netti pot and all of the other supplements. The Nasonex helps but I HATE taking medication. I definitely think the last year has been really stressful for me. I definitely think emotions play a role in this (not to mention a dad who suffered with sinus problems forever). I really appreciate all of the help and I hope everyone gets relief... it is so uncomfortable.. peace

I found some relief! I called my doctor and she offered an antibiotic and a medication called Bidex. Bidex has 400 mg of Guifinasien (or however you spell it) in it. My head hasn't hurt in three days! I hate taking medication, but if it means my head won't hurt, I'll gladly take it. I'd had a sinus headache for three weeks! *knocking on wood that it lasts!*

wow, so many people with sinus probs and so many different remedies...i have suffered from sinus for years in australia and when i moved to the U.S. 12 months ago my sinuses absolutely exploded...my husband thinks it's all the pollution here in california!! i was interested to hear that many of you believe there is a connection between sinus and anxiety because moving to a new country certainly aggravated my anxiety symptoms...the one curious thing i have found gives me relief is just to have a really cold, preferably icey drink...i feel immediate relief albeit temporary...do any of you experience this? every change in barometric pressure sets me off, every windy day, pollen, you name it...and even sometimes when the air seems clear i sometimes wake up with shocking headaches and can feel the fluid in my sinuses shift every time i move my head...very unpleasant...i do have a deviated septum which does affect my breathing but didnt realise that too is a cause of sinus. i snore terribly much to my husbands chagrin!!! i feel for all of you in the same situation but shy away at the thought of surgery. i am interested in learning more about non-invasive treatments.
