I have ulcerative colitis and was recently told by my physician that serotonin is produced in your brain AND your colon. She said this may be the reason that I need medication to control anxiety because my colon is out of whack, therefore making my serotonin levels out of whack. Has anyone else heard of this before and if so, does this mean that I will have to be on medication for the rest of my life? Any info would be helpful.

Yes, I heard the same thing. 5-HTP supplmentation was recommended. 5-HTP is converted naturally to serotonin.
