Hi Melinda. When I have a What if thought it means to me that I am worrying about something I do not Know will happen so depending on the thought I either let it float threw my mind and not entertain it or I tell myself that I am jumping to conclusions since I can not pedict the future and at ohther times I will ask myself if it is resonable rational or realistic. Stay in the present. Another thing I figured out was my what if thought was a way to try and control perhaps a particular situation and the only true control we have is over our thoughts. Hope this helps you out!!!!! Good Luck
Well put Timber. I would just like to add that my remedy for those annoying and scary "what if's" was to try to replace them with a ridiculous, funny statement to counteract the scary one. It works wonders. A big secret to my success was and is humor. It feels alot better to laugh and smile than it does to frown. Judy

Melinda, Another thing that works for me is changing my what ifs. Sometimes its REALLY hard, trust me, I know...but it has worked for me. I remember I was waiting in line for a "scary" ride...thinking what if scary thoughts...well I changed my thinking to think what if I do this and I beat this and stuff like that. Well it worked! I actually had FUN on the ride (scared me so much the first time I rode it!) and rode it again! Anyway, try to change to positive what ifs...I know it's hard, but just try-try-try! That's all you can do! Take care, Cindy

What if thinking to me is our minds why of preparing us for things which may happen to us in the future. We are smart people so it only makes sense to plan ahead. We tend to have a lot of scarey what if thoughts, these are really of some concern because we generally don't know the answer to these "what if" thoughts. Let's say you are out to dinner and you start thinking, what if I vomit all over the rug, and people start looking at me and I get embarrassed. Well first of all we know that everyone is capable of vomitting, so there could be a threat there, why not put a bag in your purse just in case., what about everyone watching, well I'm sure you get a feeling when your going to vomit,so you could probably make it to the rest room in time. As far as being embarrassed about the whole ordeal, no one likes to feel rejected by people, so I guess a certain amount of anxiety could play on the embarrassment part, but really if you saw something like this happen to someone else, how would you feel. I personally would go and see if I could be of any help. I would certainly feel sorry for the person. But I wouldn't reject them as someone who was not a good person. Sandy
