For me I have noticed that the times where life calls for me to be assertive, I become very nervous. I never liked confrontations but I think over the years, I have gotton better at them.
My sister-in-law lacks very badly in this area because she isn't assertive at all....more like AGRESSIVE!! And too much so!! I believe she scares everyone she talks to because she is always so agressive with the points she tries to make. She will argue with anyone if the disagree with her on anything. It really bothers me!!
Her agressiveness causes me to feel like I can't be assertive with her at all. I really don't have the energy or desire to argue and so I don't see how I can win in this situation but to just ignore it.
I think in this situation, to not say anything, is in a way being assertive. It takes a lot to hold things in in a no win situation. You get to know when it just isn't worth the effort. doodles
Good reply Doodles. How about a "thats an interesting opinion" and turn and walk away. That should end it. I don't think being assertive means getting our way. I think its more like not letting people walk all over you. I think you know that already. Sounds like your sister in law has control issues. Reena
