I used to drink at least 4 cups of coffee a day. I mean 16 oz of coffee each! My last anxiety attack I believe was because an overdose of caffeine. My question is-I LOVE the taste of coffee in the morning. Is Decaf coffee ok? I have been drinking that instead. I wasn't sure if decaf coffee was still ok to drink? Anyone know?

I switched to decaf because I was getting the shakes so bad and I only have 1 cup a day! I'm not an expert, but I assume decaf is okay. It seems to be working alright for me.

When I realized I was having anxiety I cut out caffiene all together, because I didn't want to introduce anything into my system that would trigger a panic attack. I went for 3 years without drinking ANY coffee, and I used to spend $100/month at Starbucks! It was hard, but necessary.

The answer to your question is yes, decaf coffee has caffiene. A cup of regular coffee has anywhere from 60-120mg of caffiene, where decaf coffee has only 1-5mg per cup. Recently I began to drink decaf coffee again and it doesn't seem to have bothered me. If you want to cut out caffiene totally, you can buy "substitute coffees" that contain no caffiene. They're actually pretty good. I found mine at a local health food store. It's called Perro.

Also be aware that chocolate contains caffiene too... 1oz of regular chocolate has 6mg of caffiene and 1oz of dark chocolate has 20mg!

I read somewhere in the postings that as Sandina said, yes decaf has caffiene. The posting also said that at first we need to
come completely off caffiene, then later
when we feel in control, if we add some back, we will be able to tell if it bothers us right away. Also, by then we should be enjoying being anxiety free so much that it will be easier to resist going back except for every now and then.
I am counting on it.
