'25 Ways To Win with People, How to make Others Feel Like Million Bucks', by John C. Maxwell & Les Parrott fits into what some of us are trying to achieve.
Charisma can be learned and developed. It's truly amazing watching, or experiencing, someone who has developed this skill. Life is really all about the people with whom we interact. Learning to do it to the best of our ability contributes to a rich, rewarding life. This message has been edited. Last edited by: CA Rita, |

Charisma is a powerful tool for sure. It is something that I feel I lack because I'm afraid and anxious I suppose.
My boyfriend is a great example of charisma. He has dealt with anxiety and depression, anti-depressants and the side effects. When I first met him he didn't work for the first year or so. Come to find out, he feared getting a job. He had owned his own business at one point, worked many jobs but when going through his divorce he stopped everything. This halt on life led him to basically do nothing. Then one day he got a job. Two years later, he has been promoted 3 times and will be promoted again in just a few months. He somehow overcame it and loves his job and the people love him. He is an inspiration to me. WHen I ask him though if he still has anxiety, he always answers YES. This baffles me. His charisma is contagious and I'm grateful that I have him everyday. When I need to do something that scares me, he tells, "Just have courage" |

LNR,
It sounds like your boyfriend can a great support person for you. It would be interesting to know what helped him come out of his deep valley to become so successful. Good for him! As we move through this program we will build our confidence that will in turn build our courage, step by step. In the past I was able to "face my fears and do it anyway", sometimes trembling all the way! I had people in my life who encouraged and supported my efforts. For some reason, we tend to remember the negative experiences more that the positive, and attach them to new, not yet experienced situations. This can create anxiety and fear. I'm sure we'll learn more about this in subsequent sessions. Not to get overly religious, Joel Osteen said something that I tell myself over and over: Whatever God has put in our hearts to do, we have already been equipped/enabled to do it. I take that as when we have a strong ambition/urge/motivation to do something that's good, we can do it with less effort that we think. (That isn't to say we should act on impulsive thoughts.) I hope you don't mind my asking; what are some things you need to do that scare you? |
