Has anyone found relief from their obsessing while reading the book?

I'm still having problems. I obsess over my BP. I'm constantly checking it, & when it doesn't go down, & obsess more. I'm stressing because I go to the doctor next week for a follow up & everytime I go, my pressure goes up in the office, even though it's been lower than usual in the office.

HELP ME!

Hi TVGirl,

I have only read chapter one so far but I have a suggestion for when you are in the Dr. office. I have high blood pressure and when I'm at the Dr. office I get so anxious and worry that it will still be too high. The last few times I went to the Dr., I have been doing journaling in the room before the Dr. comes in. I am not very good at positive thought replacement in my head yet...but I am getting very good at replacing the negative thoughts as I write. I think this really helps calm my anxiety in this situation which can only help with the blood pressure reading.

I also plan to do as Tricia suggested...write down on a card (like the blue cards with the program) positive thoughts to read and focus on. I also plan to make an audio tape of the same kind of positive thoughts as the card so that I can listen to it whenever I start having scary thoughts about my health.

The other thing that really helps me is to face my feelings of fear. Most of the time when I feel fear, I tell myself to accept the feeling and face it and the fear vanishes.

I hope this helps.

Curly,

I've just started journaling, & will continue to do it consistently.

I really don't have high BP, it just sky rockets in the doctor's office, & when I get anxious about taking it myself. after I calm down, it goes down again.

Is your high BP anxiety related?

Hi TVGirl,

I'm not sure if my high bp is an anxiey thing or not. I've had a bunch of medical tests done to see if there was a medical reason for it being high and none was found so far. (I'm going to see a dermatologist at the end of this month...I have a rash on my arma that I've had for years and when I showed my Dr., he said there are some skin conditions that can raise blood pressure) Sone days when I take a reading it can be high when I'm feeling peaceful and sometimes I feel tense and it is lower than I thought it would be. I tend to internalize my emotions so I think the anxiety must play a role in it.

There is something called "white coat syndrome" that people get when they go to the doctors office. All it is, is an elevated blood pressure reading due to being nervous about being in the doctor's office. They call it that because the doctor's most of the time wear white coats...Hope that helps ease your mind a bit...
