The Anxiety Disease, by David V. Sheehan, M.D.
This is an EXCELLENT book that will help you in trying to describe to your family/friends/doctor how you're feeling. Within the first six pages you will probably recognize yourself. I know I did! I've purchased copies of this book just to give to family and friends - hoping that they might "get it". I highly recommend this book! You can find it on Amazon.com - used copies under a dollar! You can also review the first few pages of the book. It's a great way to see "what's inside" The Anxiety Disease (quick review on Amazon) |

It is an interesting book, and one of the first I read when I was diagnosed. Make sure that you realize that the information about medication, though, is somewhat out of date. The thing I liked the most was definitely the first few chapters of the book; I felt he encapsulated anxiety in a unique way. I think it was the part where he tells the reader to imagine the feeling you would get if you were walking on a tightrope between two skyscrapers and slipped - the feeling right before you fell, the second you realized "oh no, i've slipped and now i'm going to fall and die!" (quoted from memory, so I might be off)
It's a good book to give to others who don't understand anxiety as well. |
