I've always had problems getting my brain to "kick into gear" and focus on work, or when I was younger, school. I get by only because I have short periods where I can get enough stuff done to look like I'm working OK, but I'm certainly not working up to my potential. I've had some psychiatrists say I have ADD, others say the problem is from my anxiety. I took a combination of Ritalin and Luvox for about a year as an adult, and I was really able to focus at work - dramatic difference. After stopping meds, tried taking them again and they didn't work. So... now I will sometimes have a can of Diet Coke (hate coffee) in the morning, and sometimes the caffeine will help "kick my brain in gear" so I can be productive at work. But I really want to stop drinking this - I know caffeine is bad for anxiety, plus I can't drink it after noon or I'll have trouble sleeping.

Does anyone with ADD, or ADD-like symptoms have anything that helps them focus without meds or caffeine? By the way, my diet is reasonable, and I do exercise.

Well, I'm certainly not certified to tell you what will work. I can suggest going to a homeopathic doctor. They work with vitamins and herbs rather than meds and will test you to see what you are lacking in. I know they are highly successful with add problems. I went to one and got some great advice and supplements for "me" that I needed to feel better. You might want to give it a shot? also, have you tried emergen C? here is a link for more info. Many swear by this drink of vitamin c. Emerhttp://www.herbshop.com/emergen_c.htm

Whoami;
I started working with a nutritionist/biochemist six years ago and the first thing I had to do was go off caffeine. Now I wouldn't think of eating or drinking anything with caffeine. It feels so good to be level in my energy all the time. No highs and then subsequent lows. I drink LOTS of water and take vits. But I did have headaches for a week when I quit. I drink decaf green tea and decaf black tea. I love hot drinks! They are so soothing! It just takes time but it is sooo worth it. I went cold turkey but on the tapes they suggested tapering off. I guess my black and white thinking didn't allow for that! (hee hee)
Good luck! hang in!
blessings;
