I was wondering if anyone here smokes cigs and has any luck in quitting other than will power (which I lack at the moment, or patches). The only thing that ever worked for me was Zyban, but I can no longer take that medicine. Has anyone ever tried hypnosis? I want to quit and start excercising again. But I can't seem to.
Thanks

I tried Zyban and it worked for me, but then, of course, I went back to smoking. Roll Eyes stoooooopid me!! Now, for some reason, I am extra sensitive to meds and I will not take zyban again. I think cold turkey is just best, that or cutting down and then quitting. I too have no will power and I feel like a complete idiot becaus eI eat right, I exercise and then I smoke! Eeee gads! Ah well, I have made the committment to myself that by the end of 2002, I will no longer smoke. Sooooo, 3 mos to go, and we'll see, eh? Eeker

Ive been chewing tobacco since I was 15...(im 43)
I once started smoking to quit chewing, then I started doing both. Finally I quit smoking but still chew. Im also about 40 lbs. overweight. In high school i was a football "stud"...lifted weights, etc. Ever since high school I've wanted to get back into shape....one of these days....... Wink

Thank both of you, I'll first try cutting back and see if then I can quit. It's so addictive!

Good luck to both of you also. Smiler

I just quit smoking this year.....I have been wanting to quit for about two years now....

The way I did it, was my fiance and I got really into bike riding. I got so into it that I finally said scew this I JUST CAN'T BREATHE.

I have smoked for 15 years....and I know there was no way I was quitting without some kind of help. I tried the patch...but I did it in the summer time. I am too active and sweat too much to do te patch. It ends up falling off. My best way to quit was the GUM. It comes in Mint and Orange flavor...It has been great.

I never thought I'd be able to quit. I must admit I was a tad bit bit anxious from it for a few weeks. After I made it through a month....I was ok.

The only time I have a problem now is when I drink a beer or two. For some reason CIGS and BEERS GO TOGETHER!!!!!

HAHAHHAAH....

Good Luck to you all in this area....I though for sure I would never quit, but I surprised myself this year!

Thank all of you again, cutting back is working bijoux and I can also take Zyban now, but I am sensitive to it.
Hello Ethan, I agree, it does mess up our excersice. I'm down to 2 a day, but I only want to take a puff or two to calm me down. Stupid of me not to at least try some gum! I've gotten this far Roll Eyes Think I'll get some gum, it is less expensive than the patches anyway - I just can't stand the cravings, I really hate it after I take a puff, it makes me feel depressed for some reason, (who knows ha!). Lots to do. One day at a time. Thanks for all of your input! Smiler
Have a great tomorrow!

I am in agreement with the excercise buff. I would think that knowing how much excercise helps us that it would be a priority for all of us. Then forget about quitting and sooner or later it will fall away. One thing at a time as they say. I work with a bunch of women half of which have this disorder and are smokers as well. The way I see it the excercise is first and then the smoking. Because you see the excercise builds self respect and that will give the boost needed to quit smoking. Because if you can keep an excercise routine, with time, you can kick the smoking. I think it is all a matter of self respect myself. maybe I am wrong but that is how I see it.

Hi catspurr!
started excercising too. always brings me up. not everyday, but what a difference it makes. thanks for the support. still no cigs. anyone can quit, even if you think you can't. Just remember, once you do, you can't pick up another one, they are so addictive, that's what i heard. Excersice used to be a big addiction for me. But hey, not a bad one! So long as it doesn't interfere with other things. Makes me feel better, guess that's what youre talking about...self respect. thanks for the support. lets keep excercising and give each other and ourselves a pat on the back.
to all of you who responded
thanks Smiler
And if you can't excercise on a bad day don't beat yourself up either, everyone has bad days and we are all human beings.
