Thought it might be good for those of us quitting smoking to share our reasons for quitting.... I'll start with a few

1. 3 little sets of eyes who watch my every move, for whom I need to set a healthier example
2. To breath easier
3. To feel personal freedom
4. To slow down my aging process
5. To show myself that I really do love me
6. To prevent my voice from getting deep and raspy..lol
7. To smell better
8. To be proud of myself
9. To be around to see my great-great grandchildren, my great grandma got to meet hers before she past away... I want to do that too!
10. $$$$$$$$cha-ching$$$$ what a waste of money

Add as many or as few as you like, we just need to remember there of great reasons to do this so let's focus on the positive...

But hey we could also list reasons to continue smoking, see how it weighs in comparison... let me try a few...

1. To spend money I can't afford on something I shouldn't do (that actually sounds fun! lol)
2. It's easier, initially, to keep with a bad habit than to break it
3. the smell of cigarettes reminds me of my grandpa (who, by the way, died of a smoking related illness, yikes!!)
4. I have to admit sometimes I enjoy the fact that I am doing something so "rebellious" and careless...

So, your turn!! Tell me your reasons to quit or to continue...

Best of luck..
Peace... Julia

I quit 4.5 years ago. I did it for health reasons, completely COLD turkey.

I have stayed smoke free because it....

is better for my health.
for myself and my family, especially my step daughter as I did not want her smoking.
My hair and breath do not smell like nasty ashtray stink! YUCK!
I can breathe better.
My clothing & car do not smell nasty. My car is 2 years old and still smells like new!
I SAVE ALOT of MONEY!!!!
I do not have to have my house repainted from the stains.
I do not have to replace my drapery or furniture because they stink of smoke.
I do not walk around with a cloud of stink around me from smoking. That is a nasty odor!

As you can see, I HATE the smell and stink smoking causes. It is just so nasty. Cigars are just as bad, if not worse!

Save your health and money! Try to quit!

Hi there Julia and a great idea!

1. I want to be around for another 55 years and without dragging an oxygen tank around with me.

2. To breathe easier which in turn may make some of my allergies easier to tolerate or leave totally.

3. To not smell like a chimney when around someone who doesn't smoke or myself.

4. To keep the air pollution down in this house.

5. To slow the aging process on me also..if that's still possible Wink

6. To save MONEY! I calculated that last year I spent well over 2000 dollars on smokes alone and could have done a lot with that money besides watching it go up in smoke...literally.

7. To get rid of the tobacco stains on the walls here at the house, I get tired of repainting each room every other year.

8. To be proud of myself also that I can take a negative addiction and turn it into a positive, more productive one such as enjoying life smoke free.

David

You all have listed GREAT ideas to quit. I used the American Cancer Society as a resource when I was researching reasons to quit and how to quit and wanted to share some of their information:

This link is about how health improves after you quit:

And here is their Guide to Quitting that includes reasons why to quit - many of which you've already listed!

I'm not a smoker so I'm just here to nag you guys into compliance. Here's a little guilt trip for you. Big Grin

If you are an anxious, worrying person chances are your children and grandchildren have that tendancy too. One of the things they might worry about is whether smoking is going to make you sick or dead. Both of my parents were heavy smokers (and drinkers) and I worried about them all the time when I was young.

I quit three years ago using the Smoke Away program. Website is: www.smokeaway.com I had no withdrawals at all and I had smoked for a long time. It's all vitamins and herbs. Wonderful product. I think I paid $120.00 for it and worth every penny.

Good Luck to all of you.
