I'm confused. I used to be able to eat Chinese food often without having any problems. But, after going through the Program and cutting WAY down on sugar and caffiene, each time I have Chinese food I get a bad reaction. I get very nauseated and just feel sick. Anybody else have something like this happen? I can't figure out why this would be happening, unless it has something to do with the amount of sugar in the sweet and sour sauce, or something like that. Any thoughts or suggestions? Help, please...

I wonder if it is the MSG that you are having a problem with.

Or the high fat fried food. And sodium.

I think your body is not used to that grease and sugar anymore. I have always had clear skin except for maybe one pimple around my period. Well this week (Christmas week) I had four pimples and my period is not due for a couple of weeks. I am guessing, hoping that is what it is and that next week when I go back to eating right again I won't have this facial reaction.
Maybe when you go out for chinese order the stuff with little or no sugar and make sure it is not fried. |

Thanks, everyone who responded, for your input. Next time I go out to eat Chinese, I'm going to be very careful what I choose to eat and see what happens. Also, going to try and keep a journal of the different types of Chinese food that I eat and any reaction, if any, occurs. See how that does.
Thanks, again! P.S. A special thanks to Reena--I bet it IS the sodium. I hadn't thought about that one. We'll see what happens. |

Hi, it is most likely how you've changed your diet, that is now causing you to notice how the Chinese food is effecting your body. Because I was diagnosed with food allergies, over the past few years I have been trying to eliminate the things I am allergic to (peanut, wheat, corn, soy)- as you can imagine its hard to do this totally.
Now after making the changes in diet, when I do eat something I am allergic to, I can usually feel the reaction right away. For example, after eating eating a yeast roll, I now notice right away that I get congested. I guess before I felt so bad overall, that I did not notice these reactions. (Hope that made sense!) (You might consider that you are having a reaction to the soy in the Chinese food.) |

trust me on this one..I worked in a chinese restaurant for about a year and saw the preparation involved. Yes there is ALOT of sugar in just about everything you could order. They use a chicken and beef broth that is part of most entrees and it has tons of sugar in it. And yes the sweet and sour sauce is basically syrup.
Lomein noodles are soaked in oil for about a week before being cooked in oil to be prepared for you. And MSG is in everything!! just so you know;-) |

My favorite Chinese buffet makes me sick as heck. The other ones are all ok, with the exception of a couple dishes that smell funny to me. But as soon as I get up and start walking, my mouth starts to water like right before you throw up...... you can guess the rest. I hate that feeling, and I'm not usually a puker

I noticed the same thing....for me it was the MSG. I found a place that prepares it without it & I don't have the reaction.

Chinese food has started to bother me too over the last couple of years.
I can count on feeling bloated and having my fingers and feet swell up a bit (retaining water) What has helped for me is ask that the food be prepared without MSG and drink nothing but water with the meal. |

Thanks e33 for the insight into Chinese recipes. I knew about the MSG's but "yikes!" your information put an explanation to the anxiety, while eating out. I don't have much of a sweet tooth to be used to so much sugar. e33, what would you suggest is the healthiest food you could order? I usually order the teriaki chicken dish. Hehe. Anyone know anything about Mexican restaurants? |

when getting off sugar etc. it has helped me to do some detox stuff as well........you might try drinking lots of filtered water daily, sweats, and a simple salt bath which is good for bad emotional states as well--1 whole container Hain Sea Salt and 1 small box baking soda and scented oil if desired into the bath, shower off after soak.....good health to you, J
