I love sugar and I do not use artificial sweeteners. I was wondering to what extent do we cut out sugar. The cottage cheese I just ate has 9 grams of sugar. Fruit has sugar too. Does Lucinda mean just cut out cookies, cakes, and sodas or does she mean anything with sugar in it? Thanks for your help.

Amber,
Fruits are Good Sugar! Not refined sugar. Im pretty sure it means like sodas, chocalate, candy, etc... Doctors recommend fruits because its the good kind of sugar.

Hi, I've heard even fruit sugars are bad. I don't eat fruit at all anymore, but (this is sad, lol) still have trouble not eating cookies, cakes, candy and chocolate. How sad is that? lol. In the lesson, she talks about oranges and orange juice. Let me know if you hear anything else.

That is what confused me (Lucinda talking about orange juice driving her son crazy) but I think Mello Nello figured it out! It's refined sugar we are staying away from (a lot of types of orange juice have sugar in them). I researched sugar on the internet b/c I actually didn't know what refined sugar is and it is poison (poison is a super harsh word but I had to write it, it makes me giggle). If you type refined sugar into a search engine it has some amazing articles about how bad refined sugar is for us. It could be the cause of all of our anxiety, depression, eating, or any emotional problems we are having. Try researching it.

Hi y'all. What Lucinda is talking about is table sugar (refined) is what we should avoid. But natural sugar is also bad if you have too much. A cup of orange juice is about 3 to 4 oranges. That's a lot of sugar. Another thing, although orange juice only has natural sugar in it (orange drinks have table sugar added) it can still wreck havock on your nervous system in large quantities.

Stay strong.

Hey there,

funny you should bring up this topic, because I was wondering the same thing this morning. Sugar? What is acceptable, what is not. Orange juice is LOADED with sugar, yes it is natural sugar, but 8 ounces of it has at least 3 oranges in it and that's too much. I avoid orange juice at all costs. I try to use my better judgement. Obviously cottage cheese isn't terrible for you and either is fruit, but if you were to go out and eat an entire cake, that would be not a wise choice. I've completely cut out sugar from my diet (brownies, cake, soda, etc.) and I do notice a difference.

Smiler I buy all natural 100% orange juice, and I use Splenda instead of sugar. It's derived from sugar, but it's not the synthetic junk like the other sweetners. My doctor said , if your using sweetners Splenda is the one to go with. Also, the bonus is, you can bake and cook with it too. Big Grin I know it's expensive here in Canada, but it's worth it.(the Splenda) I wouldn't cut out fruit because we should have 5 to 10 servings a day (fruits and veggies) for fiber etc...., so Lucinda i think, must be talking about the refined sugar.

Hi Girlwisdom. Everyone is not allowed the 5 to 10 serving of fruit per day and I don't think that people with anxiety should have nearly that much. If diabetics had the recommended allowed amount of juce it could be very dangerous. I think the recommended daily allowance is for people without disorders that can be affected by sugar.

Take care.

Hi sit-n-spin. I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician and I had to learn the effects that sugars of differnt kinds have on the blood and nervous system and It's not only table sugar that can affect you It's also natural sugar If you have too much of it. That's why Lucinda said that she had to take her son off juice. His body probably couldn't handle too much of it. You should drink juice but make sure you don't drink too much because you could get more anxious.

Take care.

Another tip..........the best time to eat sugar is on a full stomach, after a meal rich in protein. Protein stabalizes blood sugar levels for many hours. The worst time to eat sugar is on an empty stomach, even a freash fruit smoothie. Even though it is fruit and full of vitamins and fiber it hits your system and bam your blood sugar goes way up and then plummets.
If you have blood sugar issues or are sensitive to sugar you will notice how bad you feel after indulging.

It is amazing how many things turn to sugar once eaten ie baked potato, whilte rice, etc...
Arrrgg everything in moderation......balance.

By the way is there spell check on this site? I have never been able to find it. Cool

Smiler Hi Dee. Actually, that makes sense and of course if your not diabetic it's Ok. I hear you. It's best to keep it all in moderation like someone was saying. Like for instance, potatoes which are very good for you, and are a good source of potassium should only be consumed one at a time, and not blobs of it like some people do with mashed potatoes. Same with orange juices , etc.... This is going to be tough to get onto, all this information. lol. Anyhow Dee, it's good to know that your a pharmacy tech, and we can come to you with lots of questions. Big Grin
Take care Dee, and everyone. Night all!

Last night I wanted ice cream so I went out and checked all the ice cream food labels and I choose a soy ice cream w/ organic cane sugar. I understand that moderation is the key but when I am choosing a sweet snack what sweet ingredient is the best?
