Hi,
I have a question about caffeine. I don´t drink coffe, but I use to drink black or green tea, for years.
I didn´t understand that I am always so tense and irritated when I come from work, even if nothing happened that could triggger anxiety.
Of course I know that tea also contains caffeine, but I never thought about that. But when I count the big mugs of tea I drink over a day, maybe... I should switch to herbal tea?

Any experiences? I´d really appreciate some advice.
Susanne

Tea, supposively, has more caffeine than coffee, but since you can monitor how much you put in (how long you seep) it can have less. At any rate, yes tea can make you feel like you are having a panic attack just like anything else with caffeine in it. I have issues with it myself. If you go into the grocery store, there are now a lot of decaf options for your favorite teas including green. Since I've been sick I've been drinking a lot of decaf chai. You might want to look into those alternatives. Of course Herbal tea is an option as well, however I personally don't like it as much.

Hope that helps some.

Hey Gardenfairy,
Green tea actually has almost twice the caffeine as coffee does just found that out recently from the lady at the health food store so it would be no surprise if it did make you anxious. But Nelly is right you can buy decaf which give you the same benefits as green tea with alot less problems. Hope this helps hon
God bless

The caffeine in tea doesn't bother me and never did. Coffee caffeine is another story. Eeker I know when I've gotten the real thing over the decaf right away. I can't overdo tea but as long as I don't have more than 2 cups a day, I'm fine. Black tea has less caffeine than coffee (roughly half) even after steeping for a while. It says so on the back of the box of my tea. Big Grin That's for the popular brands like Lipton or Salada, compared to the popular brands of coffee like Maxwell House or Folgers, taking into consideration the method of brewing the coffee. I don't know about the speciality brands and I don't know much about green tea except that I don't like the flavor of it. I'm not a fan of the decaf teas either. They taste nasty. Razzer I ditched coffee in favor of tea (due to anxiety) over 20 years ago. I can spot decaf tea by the smell. Smiler

If it's bothering you, switch to something else. I know I would miss my nice hot cup of something in the mornings. I have a recipe for Hot Lemonade somewhere. All it is is lemon juice, lemon slices, water, sugar or honey. Heat it up in the microwave and there's a nice caffeine-free cup of something warm for ya!

And don't nobody say Dr. Pepper! Last time I read about Dr. Pepper on here I HAD to go out and buy some. Drank one yesterday and knew it all day. Naughty naughty. Wink Big Grin

Thank you so much for your answers!
Yes I think I will switch to herbal teas. I don´t know the brands that you suggest as we have different products here in Germany, but we have a great variety of herbal teas here. I think I will find some that I like. Hope I will be less agitated then....
