Sleep also seems to affect our appetite which means - get enough. Scientists discovered that sleep really is, to quote Shakespeare, "chief nourisher in life's feast." Did you know that our brain interprets a lack of sleep as a lack of food? That's because while we sleep, our organism secretes leptin, the hormone that normally lets our body know that we have eaten enough. Thus, when we stay awake longer than we should, our body produces less leptin, and we feel a craving for more carbohydrates. Therefore, sleep deprivation can lead to increased carbohydrate consumption, which in turn can lead to obesity.

Victoria,
Very interesting. I have heard that before.A lot of the time when we pick up something to eat, usually sugar laden, high carb food is really our tired mind and body crying out for rest, for sleep. I know I tend to do that myself. I didn't mean to repeat what you just posted. I really just wanted to say I'm guilty of that one. I'm working on that though. I am becoming more aware of habits that are not so good for me and really focusing on getting more sleep.
