Eat lowfat dairy and protein. Veggies. Lots of water. Light on the fruit as that is just another form of sugar. TAke a multi vitamin everyday. Leave the sodas, juices, and caffeinated stuff behind. I do eat some junk but in very small amounts. I don't eat enough veggies, but I like salads. I love potatoes and chicken best I guess. WHen you eat rice use half white rice and half brown rice until you get used to eating mostly brown rice. Have you ever heard of better butter? In a blender put 1 pound of soft butter and 2 cups olive oil and blend. Keep it in the frig. Its good for you without all the hydrogenated stuff like in margarine. The more in a natural state your food the better. I like cereals too. Nuts are a good snack. Good luck. Reena

Great advice Reena!

I would just like to add that if you go to any health or nutrition store they have many alternatives that are helpful and taste pretty good. When your body becomes use to what healthy food tastes like, and you no longer crave 'junk food' it will taste delicious, and you will feel SO much better

Give yourself time. Gradually wean yourself. It will take about 4 weeks before you really notice a big difference.

Good luck!
Diane

Ok here's one avoid sugar, caffeine, refined products containing white flour these have an effect on insulin levels. Avoid heavy conmsumption of aspartame. What to eat? Eat lowfat meat like poultry and fish other protein sources include eggs, egg whites nuts and seeds.Eat whole grain products like whole grain bread ,cereal, oats and so on.
Potatoes and rice are good but limit these two (have an effect on insulin levels)
eat all the veggies you want Good green leafy veggies good fruits that dont effect insulin too much are pears apples grapefruit berries. I could never do lowfat diets I'd eat and be hungry 10 minutes later so I am on a low carb diet. You have to find one that you enjoy being on and that you can stick too.

This is a really hard question to answer. For every single food listed in here that people said to eat/not eat, I've heard someone say the opposite about it. Such as rice and potatoes--right here you hear two different sides of the story. One person says to eat it, the other says it's not so good. I guess you'll have to make up your own mind. I always say, if it's food, eat it. If not, then don't! There are so many different foods available that you never have to eat much of the same thing making moderation easy.

If you're not diabetic, I wouldn't worry about the insulin level thing and if you're not overweight, I wouldn't worry about the low carb thing. If you're not a purist, I wouldn't worry about the white flour thing. Red meat doesn't really deserve the bad name it's been getting lately. Then again, I just read an article that said all meat (including fish) and dairy products should be consumed at a minimum. Rice, vegetables/fruit, and tofu should be your main diet. (probably written by someone who knows the chinese very well!) See what I'm getting at?

Just eat a varied diet. You really can have everything (unless there's some reason you shouldn't). There's no need to feel you have to cut anything out -- 'cept the sugar and caffeine of course.

!!!!!!!STOP THE INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember those famouse words? Too give you a little more info on the insulin thing certain foods increases sugar levels in the blood now people with diabetes and pre symptoms of diabetes already now what im talking about but for some of us with anxiety have to be careful of the foods we eat due to the increase of anxiety after eating a certain food. some of the foods like refines white flour and starches and sugar have shown to spike sugar levels in the blood. Do what the workbook says find which foods causes anxiety simple enough.

Sorry! I didn't mean anyone was fat or diabetic. I only meant that you needn't worry about going on a diet for those things if you're not. But as you can see, everyone disagrees about which foods are OK. Eating well shouldn't have to be this difficult. It's not about what you can't eat but about variety and moderation. If a certain food bothers you, you may be allergic to it and by all means, don't eat it. But should that mean if millions of people are allergic to strawberries, everyone should stop eating them?

At some point almost every food under the sun has been said to be bad in one way or another. Except for tofu--blech! I can't even type tofu without making a face. But if I believed everything I read, I'd be existing on tofu, organic brown rice and organic vegetables. And I'd be miserable.

Just eat good food. You probably already know what that consists of. Good food isn't a bag o' chips or a box of cookies, but once in a while it can be a juicy steak with a baked potato and a salad with real salad dressing, or even a ham and cheese sandwich on wonder bread.

Lighten up people! It's about eating good food, not about what you're not allowed to have.

Craw,

I just wanted to totally agree with you. My advice, which I know people will disagree with, would just be to try to follow the FDA Food Pyramid guidelines. Which is pretty much everything in moderation. That seems to be the way to go.

You want to give up as much excess and refined sugars as you can, but, I know that, for me, the sugar from natural sources--natural juices and fruits--tends to give me a much-needed lift rather than make me anxious. I don't drink several cups of juice each day, but I'll have a small glass of OJ in the morning, a banana or an apple at some point during the day, and maybe some grape or cranberry juice with dinner, which give me about 3 servings of fruit a day. All I know is that, while the refined sugar in cookies will make me anxious, I've never felt anxiety from eating too much fruit!

Same thing with carbs. I find carbs very calming, especially when mixed with a protein. I try to eat mostly whole grains--whole wheat bread, brown rice--but sometimes I have non-whole grains, like pasta and white bread. As long as you aren't seriously overdoing the carbs, I wouldn't worry. I think they are mainly bad when people assume that, because they are low in fat, they can eat carbs all day long.

And, I have to say I agree with you about red meat. I don't eat much red meat. But, about once a month, usually either right before my period or right after it starts, I totally crave red meat, and my husband and I will go out to dinner for a nice, hearty, steak-and-potatoes-and-veggies meal. Since we only do it once a month, at the most, I seriously doubt it will have any ill effects on our health.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I agree. And, moderation seems to be the secret.

Be well,
Lori

Craw no need to apologize. You just explained your opinion that's all. I thought both of our opinions were very supportive and suggestful for the poster. I believe there is no one guideline for a person to follow. Even though we disagree on this certain issue I still respect your opinion.
And there is no need to "lighten up" either, because we need to "sitck to our guns" thats one thing we are trying to learn.

have a nice day.
