I'm not sure if anyone can help me here, but I was wondering how long of a brisk bike ride is "good" to get out the "juices"? I have been riding usually 30-45 min, but is there a good distance or certain amt of time that my heart should be above its working heart rate. Like I said, I am not sure if anyone can help. I got a bike this weekend and I have started riding to add a little something different to my exercising. I was getting a little bored with my aerobics I think. Anyway, any help is appreciated. Thank you,
Cindy

Hi Cindy!

I cross train and bike riding is one of my favorites! You are already spending more time than I do. I ride for about 1/2 hr and go approx. 7 miles. There are a couple of good hills which I ride standing up on. Excellent trimmer for the rear and thighs! I learned from my son that to really reap the benefits of cycling aerobically that it is best to stay in a lower gear and pedal fast!
I've pretty much stay in my max.heart rate for 15-20 mins and I feel like my "juice" has left for that day anyway!

Have fun!
Diane

Diane,

Thank you for the information. I'm not sure exactly how many miles I go yet, but there are lots of hills here. I try not to go on any of the big ones yet, my body's not cut out for that yet! I try and pedal fast too, just because it's easier for me Anyway, I wanted to thank you for responding. I figured someone else on here knew something about the subject!
Thank you, see ya on the hills!
Cindy

Hey, at least you are getting out there and moving!!! It may not be the biggest calorie burner but you are outside moving your legs and getting fresh air and enjoying it!
Keep it up!
I walk and run every night for an hour and when I walk my heart rate doesnt get too high but I still feel better then sitting inside watching tv!!!
Best wishes
Lee

A bike ride of at least 45 minutes to 1 hour will usually get your heart pumping at a good rate. I find it much better than running which can cause you shin splints if you don't run on dirt or grass instead of the streets or sidewalks. I live in a hot climate so walking or bike riding is usually what I do in the late afternoon or night. Yes, it does relive stress and anxiety!
