Hi - I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for things to eat with a nervous stomach. My weight is low so I need to eat but when I have to go out into anxiety-producing situations I feel really queasy. Thanks.

I think something protein based is best. Avoid heavy grease and sugar. No caffeine. A piece of toast with peanut butter? Slice of cheese? Bagel and cream cheese? It all depends on how things affect you. But avoid sugar and caffeine all the time.

I think that one of the best things for me is to drink a protein smoothie. In the morning I mix up in my blender pineapple juice, 1 banana, 7 almonds, 1 ice cube and 1 scoop of protein powder. It is thick and filling. Plus, It doesn't take long to drink it. Take care, Tricia |

Carolina,
I have IBS that is definetly brought on by my anxiety. I get the queasy feeling accompanied by the feeling that I constantly have to run to the bathroom. The first thing I'd do is track your diet to your anxious episodes. Ask yourself, when you are feeling queasy, what foods seem to exacerbate it. For me, diary is a definate no no. I also eliminated chocolate and sugar from my diet and I tend to stay away from spicy foods, too. I've found that if I eat regular, healthy meals, I tend to feel better. Also, we tend to be fixated on the 3 meals a day concept, but I've found that if I eat 6 to 8 smaller meals a day, I feel better because my body is not going through the rollercoaster. Remember, the queasiness is tied to your anxiety. Take time to really learn the relaxation response and whenever you feel even the slightest bit nervous/anxious, start using the relaxation response and the six steps from Lesson 2. Accept, Permit, Breathe, Positive Self-Talk - Distract - Laugh. This is just as important as diet. You are not alone in this. Keep working and you'll find your way. Wishing you well, Zair |

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. My tendancy has been to suck on livesavers when I start feeling queasy and all of this sugar doesn't help my anxiety level! I'm working on adding more protein to my diet. I do have IBS and it has grown worse over the past year (which is why I'm so anxious!) so I also need to work harder on identifying "trigger" foods. I've started replacing milk with soy milk and that seems to be helping.
