Hello
I've been reading through your posts about fear of getting sick and I am getting so much out of them! I hope you are planning to leave the posts there.

Sorry for the delayed response - speak of the devil, I've been sick most of the week.

But boy could I relate to what you guys wrote about. It is a vicious cycle for me - feeling anxious, then feeling sick, then worrying about getting sick, etc., etc.

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing. And I'm looking forward to hearing about your movie experience, JFP!

Will2change, what's Recovery, Inc.? I believe you mentioned that in one of your posts.

Just wanted you to know I didn't post and fall off the face of the earth!

Hi Patti,

I most definitely will leave the posts up there. I hope to help as many people as possible Not to go through what I have been through and hopefully to learn from my experiences.

Recovery, Inc. is an organization that helps people who are experiencing panic attacks. I found it a long time ago (maybe 15 years) in reading Ann Landers. Someone wrote about the symptoms they were having and she suggested they find group meetings in there area through Recovery Inc. She had printed the 800# and I called because I was so desperate and excited to hear that someone out there was experienceing the same things I was. I thought I was the only one in the whole world feeling this way. I attended group meetings every Tuesday in my area for years. They teach cognitive behavior therapy. Everyone talks about their experience with the panic attack and then everyone else praises them for trying to cope and gives them advice on what to do and what not to do in the "language" the organization taught us...

-distressing but not dangerous (referring to a panic attack)
-have the will to effort (will to try)
-the will to bear discomfort (floating)
-setbacks (Lucinda calls them growth spurts)
-fear ot the unknown ( anticapatory fear)
-imagination on fire (exaggerating the thoughts)
-racing thoughts (negative thinking)
-spotting (recognizing)
and so on...

Anyhow, this is the link to the website (they have a website now)...

http://www.recovery-inc.org/

Take care Patti and don't let the thoughts scare you. They are ONLY THOUGHTS until we try to act on them.

Will2change,
Thanks for the Recovery, Inc. info! You are an answer to prayer! I've got the website bookmarked and am looking into it now. I got all excited when I saw it was based out of Chicago, just a few hours from me! Yippee!

Thanks for your insight and hope.

Hey Patti.....

I have no intension of deleting any of it either, if any one ever comes to the site with similar problems I am sure they will read it in disbelief.

It feels really good to know that I am not alone in this (but for yours and will2changes sake I wish I was Wink )I would not wish this on my worst enemy, I have said before that I would rather live with no legs somedays, at least then you know your limitations and deal with life accordingly!!! Ahh well, I am really trying to come to terms with this for the first time in 15 years and fight it head on, but it seems like a tough battle at the moment.

Take care,

JFP
