I myself am a quitter after many years of smoking. Many think that smoking is a way to calm yourself but it is in fact a stimulant and it can add to your anxiety. I took Zyban, a prescription drug that is used to help you quit. This worked very well for me and I have been smoke-free for 2 years now. Also, try to go places where smoking isn't allowed and hang out with non-smokers. If your friends or family smoke, tell them that you are trying to quit and it would be nice if they could not smoke around you. I had tried gum and patches in the past but the problem with that is you are stopping the habit but you are still getting the nicotine and this is the drug that keeps you smoking. With Zyban, you rid your body of the nicotine and you don't have any withdrawel symptoms because it keeps you calm. I can't explain exactly how this works but I had tried everything else! Good luck!

Hilary,
thank you for your help, did you have any side affects from Zyban at all and if you did what were they.

For the first week, my heart raced a little and I did lose a little weight in the beginning but after a few weeks I had no side effects. It feels like you are not on anything except the urge to smoke is lessened. The medicine will help you but your strong desire to quit has to be there too. Also, if you have a history of or current seizures, you can't take it.
