Hey guys,

I've been having a struggle with this session. See, I've been working out and that's been great, But I always seem to step back when it comes to food. I've tried weight watchers and It worked for me in the past, But i just can't seem to commit this time around. I also have this fear that I'm trying to be just like my friends, because they are working on working out and losing weight too, And the last thing I want is try to be like friends. One of my fears is not becoming my own person. I also realized that I binge a lot at night time. Especially if I'm on the computer and I'm bored. I'm usually fine in the morning and afternoon but then at night, that's when its bad. Does any one have any tips for me? It would be greatly appreciated! Smiler

I like this website where you can keep track of your calories intake and output. http://www.calorie-count.com/

I have found that if I know that I have to log my calories, that I am more cautious of what I eat.

Noelle,
My husband is diabetic type 2, found out 5 yrs ago. We both use his diet, and its very healthy. Low carbs, good carbs with low glycemic index. Fish, and poultry, baked or grilled, Lots of veggies (minus the white veggies, potatoes, etc) Fruits, fresh! No caffiene, or sodas that are diet, no caffiene.
Your exercising is great! that help alot to.
Now, All this is easy to tell you to do. But, its up to you to want to lose weight. Dont do it because of your friends. Do it because of your health and your well being for YOURSELF!
If your doing it for the wrong reasons, you wont stay movtivated to do it.
It was hard for us to do at first to, but now its very hard to eat sugar or high carbs, they just dont tast the same..... NellySmiler

Noelle,
We have a club of night munchies anonymous Wink, especially when bored, anxious or depressed. Seriously though, I have found that those three factors can send me straight to the frig or goody cabinet.Years ago it was the opposite, I would eat less when stressed. These two habits are closely related even though they are opposites. It is very frustrating, and eventually affects our health- emotional and physical.
So, in answer to your question Smiler yes, in additions to the great tips from luv cats and Nelly try drinking at least 8 ounces of water every time you get the urge to munch BEFORE you open a frig or cabinet. Helped me quite a bit to break the habit and I use my exercise bike when watching TV. And have you seen the little pedal bikes that fit under a desk (like at the computer)? My son has one and loves it! Think you can find them in most sporting goods stores and I know Brookstone has them. Good for the circulation and burns some calories too.
Hope this helps. Cindy

DANG! I have been stay away from forum/chatroom until I saw this topic I feel I need to respond...

I am on Diet right now. How? what? I eat small portion of food at every meal. Maybe about half of what you usual eat before. Also, increase eat fruit/veg.. For snacks eat fruit/yogurt/Pickle. If you choose to eat other than that, eat small, For example I used to eat 6 oreo now I cut to 3 oreo. Drink water.

Also, dont eat until you feel you are full. Reason because it takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain your full.

Exercise is good too.

Research shows that pickle is a good snack that helps with control hunger and weight.

I also stop eat at 7pm every night.

I think eating well is a habit developed like anything else. I lost over 35 pounds a year ago and most of it is still off. I paid for a nationally advertised weight loss program. CO-workers of my wife's have used the same program and have not kept it off.
I think the difference is motivation.
If your motivation is solely cosmetic imo you will not keep it off. IMO because over-concern about one's looks comes from the same selfish place that we gratify ourselves with food.
My motivation was health this time around at this attempt. I went to the doctor's and she said, "Your cholestorol is still as bad as it was 6 years ago."
"SIX YEARS AGO? You never told me I had bad cholestorol." SO that's what started me.
ALso when you diet you have to be the one in control of the food. I'm lucky. As a guy I can cook so there was no well meaning individual tempting, "oh c'mon, you can have this bun.". I would often have to cook something different for my family but what I was preparing for myself was not that big so I could do it.
Sure it's great to be told I look 20 years younger, the cholestorol's good and I have the blood pressure of a teenager...but honestly that is just the byproduct.

I have the same problem. I am trying to go off the caffiene and that is going well, but the binge eating is bad right now, my job is up in the air after 15 years and it keeps getting worse, I am actively looking for something else, but this time is very stressful. I will keep trying. Currently I work two jobs, not a lot of time for exercise, but am fitting it in.

If one has to choose between a pickle or a cookie, the pickle is a better choice. However, if I recall correctly, there is very little nutritional value to a pickle and it is chock full of sodium. So maybe folks with hypertension should ask their drs.
