I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of silver fillings in your teeth increasing one's anxiety/panic attacks?
The reason why I ask is because on Easter Sunday one of my lower molars broke, which left a silver filling exposed. I searched for a holistic dentist to do the repair since I am still nursing my son and I wanted to protect him from as much heavy metal toxicity as possible. Well, my holistic dentist told me that once he removed all the silver fillings from his own brother's mouth, his brother's panic attacks were greatly reduced. I never mentioned to this dentist that I have anxiety disorder. Has anyone out there heard about the relationship between silver fillings and panic attacks? |

Beth,
How very interesting.... Who would have though it. I don't have the answers to your question but I sure hope do others reply with the information you are looking for. I've heard of silver fillings being a source of lead poisoning and even cancer. I've heard but, I'm not sure about true data on this. I have a lot of silver fillings, but would take them off in an instant if my anxiety was reduced of if cancer and lead poisoning were in fact associated with them. Please keep me informed on what you may find on this topic. I also wanted to ask what is the difference between a holistic and a "regular" dentist. Are they pain free? Better? Faster? More in tune with one's needs? Any information would be helpful. |

Hi Cutufa,
Thanks for responding. You reply provided me some new information. I do not have a complete definition of what holistic dentistry fully entails. However, my holistic dentist avoids using x-rays, is mercury free, does not do root canals, and when he does fill your cavities he uses a composite and avoids metals. He tests you first to see what composite is right for your body. You may want to search the internet for a more complete description of "holistic dentistry." I do know for a fact that silver fillings contain mercury, which is the one of the most toxic materials on earth. I am also aware that this mercury continually leaks from these silver fillings. It kind of makes sense to me intuitively that the mercury toxins could be stressing our bodies. I am currently reading a book called "Tooth Truth" by Frank J. Jerome, D.D.S. Well, hopefully, we will hear more about this from others. Beth |

Beth,
As you read the book, would it be possible for you to post information about it here. I'm interested to know more. I've had 3 root canals done to date. I wouldn't wish them on anyone. I'll check the internet for more information. What would a holistic dentist do instead of a root canal? Very interesting topic you've posted here, thanks. |

Hi Cutufa,
First of all, let me tell you that I had my dentist appointment yesterday to repair my tooth with a composite and to replace another silver filling with a composite. My right lower side is completely free of silver fillings and I plan over the next six months on removing all my silver fillings. I had a blood test done to find out what are the best composites to use for my body. The results showed that I have a sensitivity/allergy to mercury along with lead, nickel, formaldehyde, etc. Also, I do not like the idea that this mercury (one of the earth's most toxic materials) is leaking into my body. In regards to the book "Tooth Truth," I gave it back to my dentist because I read/skimmed as much as I needed. In regards to your question about root canals, I did read the section and it was very detailed. I can not recall all the information, but it indicated that many people have problems with their root canaled teeth afterwards and beside a root canal, there is extraction with filling in the missing tooth with a bridge. I am so sorry I do not have the book anymore to help answer your question in more detail. Maybe the local library has the "Tooth Truth" book to borrow. Beth |
