I've read articles stating that sugary snacks themselves do not make children hyper. For instance at Holloween time children become 'hyper' not because of the surgary treats they consume but because they are dressed up, going door to door having fun with friends. At birthday parties it is the same.

Articles I've read state that it is not the surgar but what the kids are doing (the enviornment they are in)while eating such snacks. My question is, if this is true then why would this phenomenon be any different for us grown ups? I'm in the child care field and read many such articles. I will try to find them online and post them, although my internet abilities are limited.

Cutufa:

First of all, thanks for your reply to my post "diet question". This subject you raised is interesting to me. Everyone is different, so I'm sure some people are more sensitive to sugar than others. i have never considered myself sensitive to sugar but am trying to reduce sugar for a period of time to see if I notice any difference. But it is SO HARD to reduce sugar. i find that the less sugar I eat, the more I crave sweets.

In answer to your post, maybe one difference between children and adults it that since chuldren weigh much less than adults, the same amount of sugar will have a much more effect on them than on adults. Maybe an adult would have to drink 4 or 5 sodas to be the equivalent of a child drinking one. But also I would think that if a group of children were at a birthday party, they would probably be hyper even if they do not eat any sugar. It's hard to say how much of their hyper-ness is caused by sugar. I do appreciate you doing some research on this and letting us know what you find.

Thats interesting. Who put out that article? The C & H company? LOL! I don't think sugar does any good but does it do harm? I think our pancreas's would have somthing to say about it. You know, diabetes has soared in this country. We consume alot of sugar and refined foods. Thats my two cents and I haven't kept up to date on any of this, so its only my opinion.
