Hello. I just finished working on lesson four in the workbook, and have a question about one of the action assignments. It says to write a plan for problem solving and decided how I will make it happen, problem is I can't think of anything. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to help me get started? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. Hi. Sorry I'm so late in responding; I just read your post. I think this assignment asks you to think about solving your particular problems. For example, one of my "problems" is that I don't get enough exercise. So my goal for the week might be to walk for 20 minutes at least 5 days.
The idea is to start doing something about problems besides worrying about them. Once you have a plan to solve them and take action to solve them, the problems will seem much more manageable. Julie |

I agree with Julie about looking at solving problems instead of worrying about them. I started out with writing my list of "shoulds". Next, I eliminated unrealistic shoulds and shoulds that were not MY goals. Then I looked at the remaining "shoulds" and changed them to realistic goals. So, "I should be more productive at work" (which is ridiculously broad and unrealistic by itself) changed into what I really wanted to accomplish. My actual goal was to have a course I was teaching ready to go. I set tasks and deadlines to meet the goal so I wouldn't get overwhelmed. I realized I didn't need to have 100% of the 15 week course done before school started and adjusted my deadlines appropriately. In the end, I felt productive because I was able to meet the goals I had set and I was able to have done what I needed to have done by the time classes started.

Thank you Julie and Rica for your responses. Now I understand, and have some ideas for how to make my "plan". Thanks again.

I know that one of my particular problem is that I'm very anti-social and don't like to talk to people, so, I make it a goal that 3 or 4 times a week I go out and talk to a neighbor. It has always been a dream of mine to be a speaker, a motiviational speaker or a religious teacher. It's been a challenge because I'm hard of hearing and the way I talk causes people to say that my accent is different, like I'm from Sweden or European or something. Hence the anxiety attack come which makes me feel a failure because I can't hear. However, I must admit now that since taking this program has help me realize the I am not a failure. That is a night worth remembering; that I AM NOT A FAILURE!
