i am still having a problem with listening to the relaxation tape... i find myself not believing in it and i am constantly thinking of other things while i listen... i don't do it enough...well maybe once a day and lately it hasn't even been that much... it saya in the program that the relaxation tape in a vital part in the program but i can't seem to get myslef to do it or even want to do it... is anyone else experiencing this or have any advice on what to do? Am i setting myself back and have i ruined part of my progress...

If Lucinda's relaxation tape doesn't work for you, use another one. There are so many of them out there.

It's important that you do the relaxation exercise every day, but which tape you use to guide you through it doesn't matter. You can even use soothing music once you know the breathing/progressive muscle relation steps.

I agree with Francesca, if one does not work try another. the imortance of the cd is to each yourself how to be able to relax. we are all different and what works for one does not work for others. Not perect here, I struggle with this one too. I do not listen enough to my relaxation cd enough either. But here a few things I try to help when i do...one thing that I do is listen to it with headphones. This blocks out my surroundings and sometimes before I start I will try a little meditation to get rid of other thoughts as they enter my head, then if thougths start to enter my head while I am listening to the cd, I tell them to go away until later, it is time for relaxation. Sounds crazy, but works sometimes. good luck!

I find the relaxation tapes very helpful, but if you want them to help, You have to listen to them. I turn off everything so it is quiet. The more you listen to them the easier it gets to relax. Yesterday when I was listening to them I fell asleep. I also listen to them when I go to bed, and half the time I fall asleep before it is through.

sfriend you haven't ruined your progress it takes time to get used to the tape. I don't listen every day either. Think of it as a ten minute vacation. If you don't like the bit about the walk to the water fall create your own story. Mybe walking along the beach is relaxing to you or what ever you like. Don't think of it as something you have to do that only puts pressure on you. I'll go through the relaxation when I crawl into bed and usually I'll fall asleep befor I am done.

If you can't do the cd, listen to the cd through out the day. You'll find that Lucinda's voice will calm you. I listen to it in the car, while I'm cleaning the house and sometimes when I'm reading a book. You need to relax your brain. If her tape isn't working for you, I also listen to Bernie Siegel M.D. He has a few meditation tapes that work for me.
