My brother and I go way back, and for a long time he's tried to make decisions for me. He just applied for a loan so that he can get a house or apartment. And anyways, he started to tell me that it was something that I should do to. I simply told him i wasn't interested, it's not something I'm concerned about. He went on to tell me that I was wasting my money by renting and that i was stupid and an idiot. I tried switching topics and said to him, is there anything else you'd like to talk about. He said no. So, that was our conversation and how it ended, i feel like i made some good progress in standing up for myself and i think he respects me more too.

It sounds like we have the same family members. My mom was very dominating to me all my life. After she passed away 13 years ago, my dad and my sister picked up where she left off. So frustrating! Until this past spring when there was a conflict with a holiday dinner...I had been on the program for the 2nd time by then..and I was feeling so strong...I called them up and told them exactly how i felt and they were speechless! I wasn't nasty or rude, just bold..my family and I did not attend the dinner, and they were upset with me, but they got my point, and they got over it. Boy did that feel great..first time in 44 years...so goooood for you! We deserve to have the label of doormat removed from our foreheads!!!
