Maybe somebody can help me. I am just finishing week 3 of the program and was making really good progress - I had a super day yesterday. But today, my 83-year old mother called because she is not feeling well. Her doctor wants to see her today and I will be taking her. (She has had a cold, cough, sinus problems since November). I immediately returned to my old habits of what-iffing and obsessing. How do you handle working through the program when a major outside stress like this comes along? She lives alone but is planning on moving closer to us in the spring. How can I help her without becoming an enabler and keeping my own head straight too? Feeling really down right now.

Hi rlepree,

In the words of Micki6886, "What if is not today." That always helps me.

As for how you are to work through the program with all this stress - what better time is there! Don't give up.

I can sympathize with dealing with a sick parent. I know it's hard. You'll have to remember to take care of yourself. Don't let yourself accept any guilt.

Deal with things as they come. Here's a quote for you: "I had a horrible life - most of which never happened." - by Mark Twain.

Give it to God and let it go.

Helen:

Your reply has me in tears - thank you so much. I just think I'm on overload now - I lost my in-laws 4 days apart in December. I am an only child and just have my husband and mother, no children.

Thank you for taking the time to write - I'm so glad I found this forum.

Hi Rachel,

You will find these type situations that occur in our life are called, growth spurts. You will learn and grow from this and become stronger believe it or not

Hang in there and take it moment to moment. I love the Mark Twain quote Helen shared w/you That is on one of the carry along cards...I love that quote

Take care,
