i was out with my wife today.i have been trying to taper off xanex a little even tho this is a bad time for me with life problems. i went to a doctors office to pick up ortodics for my wifes bad feet which has been causing her much pain,the doctor was not in and the women there would not give the orthodics to my wife.my wife is a labor and delivery nurse and is on her feet 12 hours a day and shes in pain.i was so anxious i could not help my wife speak up to get the problem resolved.we went to the mall for shoes for her but she was in pain and i was anxious,i breathed and tried to float but still got panicky and took some xanex. i felt impotent for being so little help and getting panicky to boot.please give me some feed back for getting some control and strength

Can you try getting angry and being assertive as a way to fight your feelings of impotence in situations like that?
Burning up some adreneline by getting mad and standing up for what you want might help you to lose the anious feeling and you will know you did something to try to help -- whether or not you got the person to respond the way you wanted...
Other than that, if you have to take Xanax, it's okay. The world will not come to an end if you need medication.
Maybe you should taper off when you are not under so much stress?
Don't beat yourself up becasue of this incident, it happens to us all at some time or other.
