Last Thursday, I was sitting at a red light when a car came speeding from behind and ripped out the passenger side of my car and went through the red light. Normally I would have had a panic attack. I used the skills I am learning and got through it quite well I am pleased to say. Nobody was hurt, my car will be repaired by the man who hit me so all is well.
Also, I was leaving for work yesterday morning when the door that goes into my garage just would not open. The lock was broken and jammed into the wall that holds the strike plate. It just so happens that I have an extra garage door opener in my house or I could not have gotten my car out to go to work. After work last evening, I went to Lowe's and bought a new door knob thingie (after much advice from a nice salesman). I was able to stay calm and change it myself! YEAH!!!

I think that is great. Because quite frankly even a person without panic attacks, would have been in a tizzy having had an accident. But the garage deal amazes me, I have terrible panic when I misplace my car keys. This is one area I have got to learn to apply breathing tech. I can basically have a major panic attack when this happens. This has just started only a few months ago. I have had panic/agoraphobia for 25 years. So how losing keys or misplacing them started a new anxiety is beyond me. Any suggestions?

KUDOS TO Alice for staying calm.

Beth: I can relate to you. My car is important to me since it takes me to work and shopping, and therefore is my life support.

Also, it is something about responsibility which I am weak at, people close to me tell me. If anyone can enlighten me on this, I'd appreciate it.

berrak, do people say you are not as responsible as you should be, or overly responsible. As for me I try to cover all the bases. That's part of my panic problem. Nothing can be left undone.

Alicespeaks. That is so AWESOME!! At work I started getting panicky about WORK, and I closed my eyes and went through the relaxation tape in my mind. I couldn't believe how much better I felt after.
