It has been great hearing from all the people that this program has helped with anxiety. Could we hear from those who it helped climb out of the hole of depression. I think depression is a scarier subject because of the stigma attached and it would be SO comforting to hear from those who have been successful! Thank you so much!
First of all you have to give yourself permission to feel depressed. Everyone goes thru one type of depression some time in their lives. I tend to slip into depressions quite easily which my doctor has just figured out that I have some estrogen imbalances. She says that when I hit menopause it will be very hard on me. (yipee!!! Thanks doc!) LOL Anyway, if you've been checked out by a doc and know what's going on in your body it helps. I know that most of my depression comes from my negative thinking. YOu have to commit to being a positive thinker. Try really hard to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones. If you are not on a mild anti depressant and are still struggling--talk to your doc and try one. You can wean off of it when you feel better but it takes about a year for your brain to get all the seratonin, etc. replaced back in your brain. Check into taking vitamins especially B-12 and Omega 3 Fish oil. Your brain is made up of mostly fat and it is the kind of fat that's in fish oil. When your are depressed or stressed for that matter your brain looses some of that and it needs to be replaced. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise--I fought that one for a long time but I promise you that you'll climb outta that hole quicker if you just start walking! The endorphins released after a brisk walk is like the equivalent of taking a mild anti-depressant. I read that somewhere. Get the book Hope and Help for your Nerves by Dr. Clare Weekes It helps for depression too. Just float! Let more time pass. For every up there is a down but guess what! There's another up right around the corner! Life's like a roller coaster baby! Up and down, up and down--believe me with the skills in this program and by letting more time pass you'll get to the top of that hole but you won't get there until you start climbing out--there are things you can do to help yourself--Do them and don't stop doing them! When you're on top of that hole standing on the edge don't look back down in it just walk away with the knowlege that if it happens again you'll dig your way out. Hang in there! Been there done that and know that you can too.
Before you do anything, ask yourself..."How do you want to be remembered?"
welcome priv...depresion was my main thing...i just changed the words in the lessons from anxiety to depression and the same principals helped me alot. for me, it is making myself get moving, exercise(or chores-busines calls-projects we need to get doing) if just in small sets then adding to then during the day=it helps to distract/interrrupt from the overthinking/over analyzing/black and white thinking stuckness i can get into....trying to be specific verses overgeneralyzing, and DO something constructive verses overthinking is what i must do...and sometimes with depression, medication can be helpful, so one can begin to apply the lessons of the program step by step. OH=and learning to not bash oneself for not being "perfectly on plan" very important. we type so need to STOP putting ourselves down so...and learn to have a little self compassion talk to ourselves EVERYTIME we catch ourselves bashing ourselves! be as kind talking to your own self as you would to others. AMD, as yellow rose said...sooo very important for us sorts to remember this is just how we are "feeling/due to our negative perspective ="Just Right Now"...and despite "our types=ALWAYS /NEVER type of wrong thinking, tomorrow we may feel better.....
