This definition of Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real has really helped me. Right now, the simple lines and cliches help me, The KISS method,( Keep it simple, you know the rest) I don't like calling anybody stupid ever. It just adds to everybody's problems. The verbal abuse thing is really hard to kick!!! Can anybody relate? This statement has helped me though because if you think clearly of what it is that you are afraid of, it never happens to you, so next time even if you feel afraid, go ahead and do it and see how it turns out. Keep a worry and fear box, put your worry and fear on a piece of paper and then come back to it after you did it and on the other side of the piece of paper write down what did actually happen and you'll discover that it never happens like you fear it does.

You're a step ahead of me! I've always been too superstitious to put my fears in writing! Interesting post.

I replace the objectionable "s" word with: Student. Afterall, we are all students-right? So, let's "keep it simple student."

Best to all, Carolyn

Hi Mo and everyone,

I can relate. The worry and fear box is an
excellent idea. I'm going to try it.
That's very creative. .

Mo and everyone,

I learned something in an Al-Anon meeting years ago. Get yourself a God box (just a little box of some kind). Write down a worry on a piece of paper and put it in the box. Place the box high up on a shelf somewhere. Give the worry to God and go about your business. If you find yourself worrying about it, or you WANT to worry about it, then you must go and get the paper out of the box and carry it around with you. I find this is really good, because you have to physically go and get the worry and carry it in the palm of your hand. If you put the box high up someplace where it's really a pain to get to, then you tend to leave them there. Months later I would go back, and even if the problem or worry hadn't been resolved (like what to do about a certain friendship, or getting my name taken off the house loan when I divorced my husband), I found that I wasn't worrying about it anymore. Hope this helps

Jeanne

Mo,

it has worked for me. Several times over, I can't really give you any examples because I used it such a long time ago, but I'm glad I remembered cause I'm going to start using it again. (I only seem to use it when my life gets totally out of control, you know?). Anyway, like everything else, practice makes perfect. And yes, it is a good reminder that you gave it to God if you put it someplace high. I have even gone and gotten worries out of it and carried them around for 10 minutes unitl I think, hey I don't need to do this. Let me know how it works for you
