tonymarano,
dizziness is how my anxiety presented itself. This was my initial problem and complaint before it escalated into other things. Primarily, I would be shopping or doing something that I normally did and then WHAM... I'd feel like floor was moving under my feet and I would feel disoriented and I would get so scared and think that something was terribly wrong with me. This, of course, fed my anxiety and made me worse because then I thought about the posibilies of what could go wrong including going crazy or dropping dead in front of many people. This initial dizzy feeling created so many problems for me. If I reacted to that dizzy feeling differently and knew what I know now, my anxiety would not have escalated as it did. I could have avoided the entire panic process if I only looked at those dizzy spells as a sign of stress and nothing more. Dizziness is a sign of stress/anxiety. It's a sign that you are either not breathing properly ( because breathing changes when we are stressed and we tend to overbreathe ) and/or it's a sign to slow down and take better care of ourselves. I read something years ago that said more than 95% of all dizziness is HARMLESS ! If I were you, I would take this symptom as a sign to slow down and be better with yourself. Don't let the feelings scare you and don't add secondary fears by asking the "WHAT IF" questions. This is very common! Don't be worried... only care enough to take better care of yourself. |

to me it does sound like a minor panic attack (if any can truly be considered minor). the stuffy nose thing, well i've had that too during highly anxious times. was explained to me that during high periods of stress and anxiety the body can produce histamines which may be the stuffy nose thing, also when you tense your facial and head muscles it can affect your sinus and cause them to block or drain, belive it or not i think that happens. the dizziness, its all part of it. tight muscles are also all part of it. I agree with the above post. mine sort of started the same way before they developed into full blown panic and anxiety. don't let that happen to you. try some relaxation, breathing exercises, working out, reading (not about health and disease, i did that and started to develop all sorts of symptoms), just remember your NOT alone. best of luck!

These things can all be anxiety related. They could also just be the weather, the seasons changing and sinuses are acting up. I know how hard it is to tell, but what comes first. Do your body symptoms make you anxious or are you anxious and it is causing body symptoms. Either way try positive self talk. Tell yourself that it is just a dizzy spell and it will pass, it's no big deal. Talk to yourself like you would a friend. If it still bothers you there is something that the doctor can prescibe called antivert. I used to get dizzy spells every fall and this stuff worked great for it. My doctor says that it is safer than asprin, one of the mildest drugs there is. It helped me a lot.

tonymarano,
My symptoms subsided when I began taking action by working my skills. Things like diet, exercise, a good night sleep and ALOT of positive, truthful self-talk !!! The most important thing I needed to know back then when my symptoms were the most bothersome was to ACCEPT the feelings and to FLOAT with while I learned better ways to handle my stress. It does take some time to lower stress levels. If you put a time limit on your recovery then you will only create more inner stress... so I highly recommend you don't do that !! I know you want these feelings GONE NOW !!! I felt the same way but there is much more to it than that. Learning to manage stress is probably one of the biggest and most important life lessons that we need in order to stay healthy in our minds and bodies. Give yourself time and educate yourself fully. If you need support and encouragement, this forum is a great place to come ! |
