Hi everyone,

I have excepted the fact that sometimes I may reach situations that I will have a panic attack or severe anxiety. Breathing and listening to the tapes does help, but sometimes it is only possible like it says to ride through it.
I want to get creative and pack for the next time. I'm taking a plane flight.
I'm wondering what would everyone pack in a creative over the edge of worry box?
The idea of having that control to pack for the next bad time is soothing to me.
I would pack,
tissues,
some water,
photos,
small blanket,
flower oils,
a mirror,
phone,
tape with a friend's voice,
...

Kris,

How about a 'regular' book perhaps romance, or drama, or mystery, etc, etc. I enjoy reading in bed when having an anxiety attack.

How about a deck of card? or crossword puzzle book. I usually try to distract myself prior to an attack with something for the mind.

By the way, how is the coffee drinking and walking going these days??

Hi, the suggestions above are great. Perhaps maybe add:

Sugar free chewing gum or mints
I like to read real life stories of self-improvement or courage, they're so uplifting and keep me absorbed. And the stories are short, so I don't get bored. So I always have magazines on hand like Self, Women's Day, Oprah ("O") and Rosie (they have great magazines out). Of course, you should choose whatever interests you. I never read the newspaper anymore and the magazines really help the anxiety with my hour train ride each day. Time just flies by!

Hi Kris, Let me add one thing to this list...everything mentioned so far is great! And being me, i would definately add audio tapes of COMEDY!! A few years ago when i was almost totally housebound and i had NO WAY of handling panic attacks, i had to go for Root Canal work. How was i going to get even two blocks from home, go up to the 15th floor of this medical building AND remain in that chair!!?? I can tell you, it wasn't fun (you're in MUCH better shape than i was back then)....the panic was having it's way with me, as i sat pinned down in that chair, with this guy shoving his hands into my mouth...adrenelin rushing through my body AND i put those headphones on and listened to one of the funniest tapes ever! (of course, this is MY taste in humour) This was a Jackie Mason tape...i find ALL of them hilarious! Also, alot of British humour makes me laugh alot. So, i laughed my way through that root canal work. What can i say!! Take comedy with you. That's my input. God bless, Lindi

Thank you everyone,

I'm going to take everything you have suggested. All are good ideas. An adventure book with a brave heroine would get me pumped up to be brave, especially if it is something much braver than a plane flight. I would feel lucky to be on the plane. haha. Comedy tapes are something I haven't thought of, that's a great idea. How could I cry if I'm laughing too? I like british comedy too. Sugarless mints and gum will keep me busy, and puzzles, magazines are comforting, simple to read and focus on. I'll pack a few.
I've been focusing too on destination. I really want to go there and be there. After the flight, I can have a nice dinner there, and feel awesome!!
thank you all,
Kris
