It will seem like I am on a "mouth" thing here but I was wondering if anyone experiences a metal taste in their mouth. I am thinking this may be due to the Zoloft I am taking. I am currently on 1/2 a pill every other day. Any ideas?
I'm on Paxil and I don't get a metal taste in my mouth. But you could go to your local library and ask the reference librarian where the books are that list all pharmaceuticals. Some are written for lay people. If you look up Zoloft, it should tell you if a metalic taste is a side effect from it. Or, you could try typing in Zoloft on the Internet and see if they list this as a side effect for their product.
Hi Sugar, It was really funny to me when I came accross this message, because there have been times that I would also have this taste in my mouth! I would call it TIN mouth though! I wasn't on any medications so it couldn't be that. I used to notice it when I would work with the zerox machine all day. A friend told me it could be from the "fumes" that the machine would let out. I've only had this a couple of times, not lately. Hope this helps in any way!

Very interesting! I work with office machines every day - makes me wonder. I also have been wondering if it is related to coffee (decaff) or even the multimineral supplement I started taking. Any other thoughts?
It is such a coincidence that you mention "metal mouth!" I am going off Prozac and for 2 weeks have notice a serious metal taste in my mouth. I have been chalking it up to just another symptom of withdrawal. Can't wait till my body catches up with my new positive attitude!

hi sugar! Hope the metal mouth thing has been going away, if not gone! I would really try to analyze if it's from the copier machine. I have not had that weird taste since I worked there. Also, one day I was noticing that I bought some cheap spagehtti sauce in a can and it tasted like metal. I try to avoid anything that is packaged in cans, also if I do buy something in a can, I make sure it hasn't been sitting on the shelf! yuck..Lastly, I was also remembering that I used to bite my inner cheeks and corner of my bottom lip when I get nervous causing them to blister or even bleed sometimes. This would cause an irratiting feeling of numbness from biting so much and also (this may sound disgusting) but if my mouth were to start to bleed the blood "tastes" rather nasty! You can "smell" it and it's also similar to that tin taste. ha ha. HealingGirl

Thank you all for your input and support - it is wonderful having so many "understanding friends"! I stumbled upon the answer for my problem a few weeks ago. The metal taste progressed to a swelling tongue and numb lips. Low and behold - I am allergic to Zoloft! So, now that I am off it, I am doing fine (mouth and anxiety wise). I am using this as an opportunity to practice my new skills and figure this was a sign it was time to go med-free (I was on for almost a year now). Thanks again!!

Hi Sugar, One of the causes for the metal taste, that can be so bad that it feels as if your tongue was burned and can affect the roof of your mouth, is the system is too acidy. It can be so bad that you wake up with it and it feels worse with certain foods. The soulution that worked for me after weeks of suffering was under the advisement of my nutritionist. It was brought on my a lot of stress and anxiety in my life. It started after a very upsetting incident. The body builds up a lot of acid during that time that can become even worse if you don't drink enough water. GREEN MAGA (BARLEY) purchased at a health food store will help restore balance to the body. Take in water twice a day. From my research I observed that I was not getting enough POTASSIUM in my body. Therefore, I included Potassium capsules in my diet also. Well, I was thrilled that after so much suffering it completely went away. When it creeps up on me again I just know what to do right away and I am fine. Also, be careful to not eat to may acidy foods. What all of us that replied have in common is the "anxiety." Hope this will be of help. Victoria
