I can relate to that. For many years,my chronic
depression made me have sleeping problems and often I would be up late.Although my depression is better,my sleeping habits are not.Sometimes I cant get to sleep till 3or 4am and sleep till 1or 2pm. I noticed I feel worse when I sleep more. I'm doing better now.I gotta get up and get stuff done,so I don't want to sleep late. Studies have shown that sleeping too much can be bad for you. That was kind of a wakeup call for me!lol |

I just got over the excact same thing your talking about. I would be up till 5 in the morning and wouldnt wake up until 5 in the afternoon. I realized its a way of not dealing with things, cause by the time you get up half the days over. I got myself back on track though and its not that easy but it works. What you have do is when you do get tired say thats at 6am fight it and stay up the whole day keep occupied. This might take 2 nights to kick in but it works, and when you do get back on scheduale youll take your sleep alot more seriously. All it is, is your days and nights are mixed up. But as hard as it is you have to force yourself to get up and do something youll feel much better.

I'm with you, Samantha.
In fact, as I write this, it's almost 8am and I'm fighting to stay awake. I woke up around 4pm yesterday. I'm trying to do the same thing nomorestress recommends because I have a big test tomorrow for a class at 11am and I need to be awake. Listening to the relaxation tape helps me sleep sometimes, and I'd recommend gradually moving your bedtime back if at all possible. Personally, the SSRI I'm on seriously messes with my ability to decide when I go to sleep/wake up, so I have to use the more extreme measure of staying up about 24 hours to reset my internal clock. |

Hi guys,
Just a little tidbit for all of you who are sleeping past noon. They say that for every hour of afternoon sleep that you get, it's like getting three nighttime hours, and I don't know about you guys, but if I get to much sleep, I feel like @#$%. Try forcing yourself to continue to stay up through the rest of the next day so that you will be really tired when bedtime comes around again. I used to have the same patterns that you guys have and that's what I ended up having to do. I took a couple times but it worked. Hope this helps! Anna |

hi having the same problem here
trying to go to bed early but for some reason just can't seem to sleep, then i end up watching tv all night to try to pass the time until i get so tired i can't stay awake any longer it's an nightly thing for me i go to bed around 4 or 5 am and then get up around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and wake up feeling terrible i think our bodies are naturally set on the daylight wake hours & night time sleep hours and when that delicate schedule is disruppted it wreeks havoc on our body. i know i often feel tired for the rest of the evening. and tell myself "ok tonight, im going to bed early" but it never happens iv'e even gotten up early with only 4 or 5 hrs. of sleep and stayed awake all day but come nightfall, it's the same ol viscious cycle no matter how tired i am i can't seem to get a grip on this sleep thing |

I think the reason we stay up so late, and then sleep all day long, is because we don;t want to deal with society...we sleep while everyone is out and about doing things, then just as daily activity starts to slow down, we're just getting started. Then when the rest of the world is unconscious, we're alert as ever. Then there is no one to interact with, no responsibilities to deal with, just our computers and late night TV. why do we do this to ourselves?? we know its detrimental to our health but yet we continue it. I suggest planning a daily activity with somebody early in the day, like around 10 or 11am...then you will be forced out of bed to meet them. After that, make sure you DO NOT go back to bed in the day, then come night time you should find it easier to get to sleep.
good luck! |

I think Randy is right. One of the main symptoms of my depression is sleeping way too much. But, at the same time, I can't go to sleep when I'm supposed to. I might sleep 16 hours in a day, but I won't be able to sleep before 2 or 3 in the morning. I'm avoiding dealing with life. Lately, I haven't been able to fall asleep at night because I can't stop thinking about stuff. It drives me crazy. My boyfriend can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. He often falls asleep sitting up in front of the TV!! He can come to bed saying he isn't really tired and be asleep in 3 minutes! ONce I do fall asleep, I don't want to get up at all. At other times in my life, I've had normal sleep patterns--it's just the anxiety keeping me awake and depression keeps me asleep. It will all go away as the two demons disappear.
