JR5, or anyone else, could you please tell me where you purchased your wrist counter? I just ordered the Sam Obitz book and hope it is as helpful as everyone says. But the purchase of a wrist counter has me stumped.

I live in the Memphis area, so we have most of the large chain stores.

Thanks for the help.

I don't have the Sam Obitz book yet, but from reading this thread, you count your negative thoughts and then count anything positive you have done that day to kind of keep a record of your progress. At least that is what I think it is for. The readers who have used this method will be able to give you a lot more information. I am just going by what I have inferred from reading thier previous posts.JR5 seems to know a lot about it, perhaps he/she will reply

The wrist counter is something you can use for many diffrent cognitive techniques. It mentioned in Dr David D Burn's book: Feeling good.

You can use it as you said samcat about counting your negative thoughts. This can help you recognize when you are thinking negatively and that in itself can interrupt the cycle and it works really well if you add the element of figuring out what cognitive distortions are in the thought.

There is also the positive thoughts, accomplishments, and my favorate (and the one i'm using right now), things that i approve of regardless of weather i get external approval or not.

Oh and you can use it if you keep telling yourself you can't do anything and you keep track of all the things you have done.

There are probabbly countless other ways but those are the ones that i know of. The techniques work very well if you can get yourself to do them for a few weeks.

Oh and i didn't even answer your question of where to get one.

I got mine at Canadian Tire but i'm assuming there aren't Canadian Tires in the states. Golf stores may have them, stores that sell office supplies and whatever type of store Canadian tire is (they sell everything from camping gear to bikes, dishes, toiletry...maybe that would help to figure it out). Your best bet would be to google it or one of those types of stores and I've noticed they aren't really called wrist counters so much but are more refered to as tally counters.
