I had been putting this one off forever because one of my early panic/hypoglycemia episodes was during a dental appointment. After three years of not going to the dentist, I decided it was time to go back and face the fears. I chose a time in the afternoon when I was unlikely to get hypoglycemic and made sure I had a snack with me just in case.It was not easy because I ended up having to have a cavity filled in addition to the teeth cleaning and x-rays. I felt very nervous at first but I used some of the relaxation skills such as gripping and releasing the arms of the chair, visualizing a pleasant scene, and taking some deep breaths. About half way through the procedure, I could feel some of the tension easing. I realized that I wasn't feeling any pain or real discomfort from what they were doing in my mouth - most of my physical discomfort was from the anxiety itself!
