I just wanted to share an experience I had today that is a true indicator for me that I have progressed in controlling my panic attacks. I have been followed on previous occasions by a strange vehicle with unknown occupants when I go out walking with my walking buddy. On a few occasions, this vehicle has slowly and suspiciously driven right besides us up to the curb as we are walking, and followed us dangerously close as we walk. We called 911 the last time the vehicle approached us, and the officers told us to call 911 if we ever saw that vehicle again. This evening (it was still daylight out) we saw the same suspicious vehicle with the same occupants inside, and it followed us through the neighborhood. My walking buddy called the police. The first time this happened, I was really upset and started having a lot of "what-if" thoughts. I thought "what if these people find me? what if they kill me?!" After the incident this evening, I realized that I had anxiety (like anyone in this situation would have) but I didn't have a panic attack, even though the vehicle was so close to us that someone could have opened the back door and grabbed us! I tried to remain calm and in control. I am proud of myself that even though there was a threat to my life that was very real, I was able to maintain a level of control with my anxiety and panic.

You were in a very scary situation. I think anyone who didnt have anxiety problems would have been pretty anxious. Sounds like you handled the situation and yourself very well. You did great. I hope everything works out safe with this situation. Did they cops find these scary people?

Maybe time to change your walking routine a bit…but certainly not the use of the skills you are using! You have a lot to be proud of Shadow7…giving yourself permission to feel anxiety in an anxiety-producing situation, that’s a big one I think. Calming yourself and keeping a check on the what-if’s, doing the breathing I bet…sounds like you made use of a whole host of skills—it seems that’s usually the case when we find ourselves very proud of an accomplishment.

Thanks for sharing a proud moment and be safe out there.

That's such a proud moment for you--congratulations! You realized that anyone would be anxious, but you were able to keep the worry from progressing into panic--that's such a key thing.

Regarding this guy however--did the police end up coming? I suggest that you walk with a male companion next time. Risking it with just the two of you doesn't seem worth it.
