At some point in the program Lucinda describes watching an upsetting program. She told herself she had to watch it until the end, thinking that it would resolve itself and have a positive ending. It didn't, and she ended up feeling bad. She then says, "Nine times out of ten, if the movie is weird it is going to end weird. If you're watching something that's upsetting you - change the channel!"
Well, a few days ago I was watching the news and that story about the nurse doing odd things (I'll spare you all the details; if you've heard this story, you know what happens) came on. I told myself, "I should watch this until the end." So I sat there and got anxious ... and more anxious ... and more anxious. Then I remembered what Lucinda said, and I changed the channel!
I don't get to watch a lot of TV, but so much of what's on there is disturbing. Being as sensitive as I am about certain subjects I DO turn the channel right away if something comes on that I know will bother me. I've learned this the hard way...of course. I cannot even watch one of my favorite shows, CSI, any longer because it just got to be too graphic for me. I certainly do not want to turn a blind eye to what is going on in the world, but the media helps perpetuate all this garbage. It's a shame most people today have become so desensitized to it. OK, I will get off the soapbox!

Congratulations, Aesculapius. Regardless of our differences in political and religious views I wish you well. Sorry if I come on too strong sometimes. A person with good self esteem probably wouldn't react that way. Anyway, glad you applied something from the program and it worked. I wish you peace and happiness this holiday season.

Hi, I can definetly relate here. In fact, I don't even watch the news, because it upsets me, as do many television programs/movies. I figure if there's some news that's really important, a friend/family member will fill me in on it. Interestingly enough, I've learned that sometimes I have to "turn off" a PERSON! That is, a conversation may begin fine, then they start talking about things that get me anxious. I learned to politely (so I don't seem like a jerk), ask them to change to subject/skip certain details - JS
