Yes I can say I've done it. My personal opinion is that medicine doesn't fix anything. It doesn't help you cope. The first key is to become active. Start an exercise program. This is the first question my doctor asked me 7 years ago when I went to him. "Do you exercise." Exercise is a natural stress reliever as well as flooding your body with endorphins. It gives you a natural high. You must exercise several times a week - getting yourself breathless. Also try to limit caffeine and alcohol. Get plenty of rest. Try to limit your news intake. Its only bad news anyway. Read some positive books. I recommend Dr Norman Vincent Peale's "The power of positive thinking." Also don't dwell on bad things. Concentrate on positive images. Try this for a while and see if you don't feel better

hello Jeffky
Been there myself. I still have multiple medications here such as Celexa, paxil and more in my medicine cabinet. I never managed to bring myself to open and take the prescriptions after I brought them home and now I can say I made the right decision. I cannot tell you to take it or not, only you and your doctor know what's best for you but I wanted to let you know that it is possible to beat depression without medication. The first step for me was to manage my anxiety, after this was done, my depression went away by itself. |

Medication doesn't make the problem go away (unfortunately - wouldn't that be great ir it could!) The only thing it may do is take the edge off so that you can think more clearly, and solve the problem yourself. I was afraid to take medication at first too, but I seriously had not choice, and I know that it's helping me. But I still have to do all the work. Even meds won't help if you're not willing to make changes. My recommendation would be to try it without medication first, put forth an honest and sicere effort, and truly do all you can do. If it doesn't work, and you can honestly say you did all you could, give the meds a try, and see if you are better able to make progress with a little help from medication.
