I'm only on Lesson 2, but wanted to share a small triumph. I had an upper GI today. Felt nervous about it - especially when it was time to swallow the gas pellets and then the barium. I was able to say, "Of COURSE I'm anxious - I'm having this diagnostic test and it's a new experience. I'm a little worried about what they'll find or how I'll respond." I was then able to start cracking some jokes about the test and the positions they had me in and made it through the test - even though I'm still burping. I did it!

Great job! I can sympathize - I have been through so many diagnostic tests for GI problems, including that one. Somehow, I've always managed to get through them no matter how nervous I feel. The anticipatory anxiety is often worse than the actual experience of going through the test. You just have to keep reminding yourself that the test is a necessary step towards better health and getting some answers about your discomfort.
