Hi all,

I have this great idea and I want to see if anyone has any input on this. Some of you might know I'm a veterinarian. If you're involved in animal rescue or at a clinic or shelter please give me some feedback.

It seems like rescue groups set up working relationships with vet clinics that are pretty slow moving and not as cost effective as they could be. I'd like to improve that, and make it something that vets/technicians would love to do.

I'm thinking that a three person veterinary team (One vet/two techs) would travel to participating clinics and do spay/neuter surgeries on stray or low income family pets. This way there would be minimal overhead for the clinic, and the animal rescue group could rent the surgery suite from the clinic. They could potentially make a profit from this without having to do anything.
The doctor/tech team would be paid by the rescue group or groups. It would only be a few hours at a time when its convenient for the clinic to rent the space. We would all need to have regular jobs so we had insurance. We'd work as independent contractors (private business owners) so the doctor/techs would deal with the taxes/liability. Not the rescue group or the clinic.

I'm hoping the team would get really efficient at surgeries and we could do a lot more surgeries per hour than a regular clinic normally would with excellent patient care and pain control.

Any supplies would need to be purchased by the rescue group.

I'm hoping this would become really attractive for vets/techs/rescues/clinics and would spread all over the place.

I know you guys probably don't have a clue about this stuff, but I'm excited and who knows I might find some good contacts here. Karilynn, you still around? :-)

Thoughts appreciated

Deb

Sounds great DEb.
How about take this to a financial planner or your accountant and run it by him/her for feedback?
Then maybe contact an attorney who specializes in business ventures similar to this and ask for some feedback.
As you probably already know, there are organizations all over the country that can help get this going. At least with some of the initial planning stages.
Go for it.

Hi, Deb...you're right when you say some of us may not understand the speciifics of your idea, but, speaking for myself, I DO understand what it's like to have a light bulb go off and just know that I have a great idea that would benefit others. I also know what it's like to share that with a close friend and recieve tremendous encouragemnt and supoort, only to fail myself and drop the idea without pursuing it. That's one of the many reasons I chose to start this program. I know that as I move thru the sessions I will begin to feel confident and empowered enough to finally take action with some of the ideas I've had. I guess I'm trying to say "go for it!" You have a plan that would benefit, as Carolyn said, all of God's creatures, and that is grace in action. Even tho I know little about animal medicine, I do love all animals...if I can do anything (even just encourage) to help you get this off the ground, let me know. (Who knows, maybe someday you'll return that for me.) Yours in Hope, Courtney
