You are now an adult. Yet you still have your torn worn baby blanket, stuffed animal or what? What significance does it have for you today? Good or bad memories? Does holding it provide you with security?
Or what item gives you a sence of security from anxiety now? A blanket, old shirt or what? This may have a lot to do with humor although have significance to your inner needs. My daughter took out her torn worn and smelly baby blanket from the trash after we gave it it's last rights. (sp) When she got married at 19, she found it it her closet and packed it to take to her new apartment. I cried when she went thru her folder of school memories when things were simpler and she was a happy child minus anxiety. For me, I cried to recapture those simplier days. But, now lets find humor in the things we hang on to. So here's for your try at it. Be the first to start off. You might just remind us of something we hung on to that we forgot about. ------------------ Victoria |

Hey, Victoria and Reena!
Yeah, this is a fun subject. I don't remember a lot about my childhood, but I still have things that were special to me and still are. I have my Winnie the Pooh from when I was about a year or two old. Mom has a picture of me carrying him and a teddy bear named Teddy that's about two years older than she is 'cause it was her sister's first. I still have my first baby doll and most of the clothes Grandma (my dad's mom) made for her as well as the stuffed cat that always seemed to be her companion. Got lots of school stuff, like report cards and probably projects and papers, and of course, my yearbooks from junior high and my senior year of high school. A huge collection of books that I may never read again. And collectible stuff-like dolls and figurines that you don't want to get broken. It seems I have so much stuff, but where to start going through it all. I have piles of bins of stuff in the computer room. LOL And stuff in my parents' closet. You can tell I'm a big pack rat. Hi Linda,
One day there will value, if not already, in your childhood treasures. Howdy Matt, May I borrow your rock? Your parent was very wise. Thanks for the replies. I also still have my report cards and school pictures. V. |

Ok... <deep breath> where should I start. Ok, I sleep with a "blanky", but not the ones I had as a baby... (is that really any better.. NO) :O And, do you guys remember those "heart-to-heart" bears? well my Dad got me one in like 3rd grade, and I still have him... should I have mentioned I'm 23? Anyways, last summer I had a nervous breakdown and was in the hospital... well the ONLY thing I wanted from home was that bear. (If you don't know what it is, it has a battery operated heart inside, and when you hug it, you can feel the heartbeat). That was the ONLY thing that made me feel better at that time. I still have him at my house, I don't sleep with him, but I never "throw" him on the bed or "toss" him anywhere, I'm very gentile with him like a little kid would be...lol.
Back to the blankie... (my boyfriend would kill me) but he's 34 and he still has a blankie. To explain for the both of us, it's not exactly the same meaning that a blankie carried when we were little, but as soon as that darn thing is under your head at night, and it's all cool and cozy, it's INSTANT sleep from then on..lol. So I guess we use them for sleeping aides. Yeah I know... excuses excuses!! Have a good one ya'll! ------------------ ~Hopefull~ |

Okay Hopeful,
Now that it is confession time. I too have a blankie. When I relax look at TV I feel the need to be covered. I used to have an old shirt that I wore to death and in ended up in shreds. The homeless dress better than I did. I finally had to part with it. Oh yes, I didn't wear it out of the house. I actually dress very well for Church or business. Now I have this robe my cousin sent me that my family laughs at. I'm wearing it now because it has a zipper and is comfortable. But I look like I'm singing in a church quire (sp). Actually, if I had the money I'd have a great wonderful Terry cloth robe of the rich and famous. But that's out for now. LOL V. |

I almost forgot!!!!!! I was re-reading some of the responces, and I had forgot to comment about the poohbear one.
I AM SUCH A WINNIE THE POOH FREAK!!!!!! I have at least 30 stuffed "pooh's". If I'm awake when the cartoon comes on at 4am I'll watch that too. I think I have all of his movies, etc. One of my pooh's is VERY large, and he (of course) is my favorite-very squeezable. My boyfriend and family know for christmas or birthday Pooh never fails. I have the "talking" poohs, the "singing" poohs.... God, I could go on and on... but I couldn't believe I forgot to comment on that before!!!!! By the way, thanks for your reply Victoria, I feel better about my blankie now!!! Keep smiling! ------------------ ~Hopefull~ [This message has been edited by Hopefull (edited 06-21-2002).] |

Oh wonder you are "Hopeful." One day there will be big bucks coming from your Pooh collection.
I decorated my babies room (years ago) with everything Pooh from comforter to curtins. LOL. Wished I kept the stuff, but oh pooh. I have stored in the attic my daughter's horse collection and her Barbie doll collection because she has no place where she lives now. Her hobby is a Coco Cola collection which includes a Barbie. I collect old family photos, some enlarged and most framed and hung. I love to decorate French Country. V. ------------------ Victoria |
