How do you rate your cooking or do you cook?

I just want to see if there is any humor in your ability to make a meal or bake? How many people died from your cooking? Have you ever brought a meal to a pot luck and it was one that was left mostly untouched? Would the dog eat your cooking? Confess the worst cooking experience you've got.

When I was single I baked for a blind date a rum cake. When he got to the house it was still baking when suddenly it blew up in the oven. Yup, split right down the middle. Too much rum.

Before I married I gave my husband and his roomates a mayonaise cake I made. I gave it to them because I didn't like the taste and I didn't like throwing things out. I was out to impress them and I certainly didn't because they tossed it but not the momory of my trying to kill them.

I guess the point here for me is to never bake a cake unless I put a knife in it and give it to someone in jail. But even that I'd mess up. LOL

I remember my first attempts at cooking. Gosh, I still laugh over the first time I cooked steak. It was right after I was first married and I got thrown cooking, not knowing a darn thing I was doing.
Well, let's just say the steak didn't come out that great. (Who am I kidding, it was so tough it would have bounced off the floor had someone dropped it)
I baked quite well because I remember my Mom always always baking something and teaching my sister and I the basics of doing so. Man, I think I'm ready to hit dream land right now. I can smell my Mom baking cinnamon rolls right now. <sigh> I have to capture this moment since she is a thousand miles away.

Victoria,
You post such wonderful topics, I love them!

Well let's see....when I was first married, I didn't know the first thing about cooking....I was 19 and lived 3 hrs away from my family, so we ate out alot! I was lucky to toast a poptart and have it come out looking like a poptart! It was bad!!

But now, I have to say I've come a LONG way, I'm an awesome cook, now! I taught myself and wasn't afraid to experiment with spices, flavorings, etc. Some of my best dishes are....lasagna, seafood, sauted veggies, oh and I make great deviled eggs!(I've been making them all week for different picnics we went to for the holiday!)
Now that I can cook, my husband forgets that he can!LOL My kids are also learning about cooking, it's fun!

Oh My Gosh!!! I have the perfect thing in mind for dessert!
Whoopie Pies!! ROFL!
(But seriously, despite the pun, I love them, and they are as native to New England as Clam Chowder. Yum Yum)
All right, all this talk about baking has left me with the urge to make brownies!

Victoria,
My mother taught me to cook when I was very young. Keep in mind that this is a woman who lives in the city, grows her own pumkins, and makes pies out of them! I remember making my first batch of home made cookies when I was 10 and they turned out great!

I have also had my fair share of mistakes. The first time I broiled steks they were so tough that you could have used them for shoe leather! I also once made a spagetti hot dish for a wedding reception and no one touched it!

For the most part my cooking is pretty darn good.

Cara_Bella,
I have a GREAT recipie for ribs if your interested. Let me know

Go ahead and share your recipe Millie.
Thanks for your replies everyone. Seems as if some of you have a problem with steaks.
