Don't know if you know who she is, but she is a great inspiration for me and her TV show is wonderful. She is a no-nonsense type with a lot of humor and I find her very refreshing. Anyway, she has a set of tapes you can order from her website called the Cause and Cure for Worry and I just caught a sampling and had to order them. I think they will be a great supplement to the program and can't wait for them to arrive. The part I heard was so encouraging and really sort of was a breakthrough for me. She discussed how the Lord is always there for you and he doesn't want us to worry and that we have an eternal source of comfort and security in Him, etc. Anyway, just a recommendation, I really think they will be great. I have another set of her tapes titled, "Where the mind goes, the man follows" and that set was absolutely pivitol in my path to recovery. Anyway, if you have them, let me know what you think, or if you order them. Best wishes!

LeslieAnne, I also enjoy Joyce Meyers! She says it like IT is. God has done a great work in her life. Have you ever heard her talk about her "old" self? LOL She makes a person feel HUMAN and reminds us that God is patient and tolerant with us and loves us unconditionally as we learn and grow. Certainly takes the pressure off of being "super Christian". Let me know how you like the tapes!
Thanks, I love her too. I am considering purchasing her book entitled, "Battlefield of the Mind". I have heard wonderful things about it and I thing it could be just what the Dr. ordered. I have heard many people with chronic illness have used it to get thru chemo and things like that. Fortunately, I just have chronic anxiety, but I do think it's all about what you think about. So, we shall see. Thanks for chatting!

I'm a big fan of Joyce Meyer also. My problem with her is - I like all of her topics and can't afford to buy every one of her tapes. Most of them are relevant though, and I would like to purchase every one. I have a couple of her tape series and I try to watch her faithfully every weekday. I really believe that either she got some help from Lucinda, or more likely, Lucinda got some advice from her because Joyce says certain things that are specifically from the program (such as FEAR = false evidence appearaing real) as well as many other statements. Either way, the two together are really helpful. Keep on keeping on!!

I'm also a fan of Joyce Meyer and plan to order some of her material when I can afford it. I have one of her booklets called "Do It Afraid" and a tape called "Declaring War On Fear" (A-59) and they are very important tools for me. I don't use them often but they are always close by. I just checked out "Where the Mind Goes, the Man Follows" in the October catalogue and it looks great. I'm excited for you!
By the way, if anyone is under a financial crunch you can always order the cassette tapes individually. Eventually you can complete a set and they will send you the case.
I too am familiar with joyce meyer. I always find myself NOT turning the channel. However, I would like to inject a word of caution. Joyce's teachings are a part of a large subgroup of christianity known as "faith teachings", or "positive confession". Some of these other teachers are kennith hagin, kennith copeland, charles capps, etc. Many of them appear on TBN. Faith teachers believe that "what you say is what you get". They believe that we create our own reality by the words we speak. For example, if you have cancer, they would tell you to never confess to anyone that you have cancer, but rather to ONLY confess that you are healed. Then, if youre not healed, they say it was your lack of faith, since WE create our reality, not God. I could go on, but i simply encourage you to be careful not to get into that bondage like i once did. I think Joyce is the best of the bunch, but she holds to those teachings as well. I have almost ordered her stuff as well, but i will be cautious if i do. Many orthodox christian authorities consider thier teaching to be heretical. However, there is some truth in the teachings as long as it is not taken too far. Dont mean to ramble, just be careful.

Wow Joe, you really know your stuff. Thanks for the advice. I would love to get into a conversation with you! I find a lot of strength in the teachings of Charles Stanley. He has been through a lot and seems to adhere to my conservative beliefs. I am a Lutheran, and my beliefs are very "grace based". I believe that God didn't necessarily cause my illnesses, but that he will use them for my and perhaps others' greater good. One of my favorite sayings is "God doesn't waste suffering." It is so hard though to trust. The faith is there. I believe that he CAN help me through this. Surrendering myself and believing that he WILL help me is the tough one.
You said in an earlier post that you had been diagnosed as a "religion addict". Don't mean to be nosy, but was just wondering what that means. Don't feel compelled to share if you are not comfortable talking about it though.
I think Im still trying to figure out exactly what a religion addict is....but in a nutshell, a religion addict uses religion as a way to not deal with reality, much like a drug addict. A religion addict gets a "high" from being good, from attending church every time the door is open, from constantly quoting scripture, all at the expense of personal relationships. Just like an alcoholic father is "never there", so to is the religion addict never there...if you try to talk to a R. addict about a prob., the addict responds by quoting scripture, or by telling you that your faith is not strong enough. They use thier religion as a way to escape pain. Most R. addicts felt unloved as children, then they meet a group of "fanatical" believers who shower love and acceptance on them. For the first time in thier lives they feel accepted and special. This sets up the addiction. They then devote all thier time and /or money to this group at the expense of family, friends and job. There is a book called "Toxic faith" by Steve Arteburn that talks all about it. (1800-new-life) I still struggle with this myself, although my eyes are open to it...I still get the thought that IF i were more spiritual, I wouldnt have depression/anxiety. Oh well... nice talking to you.

Joe - I found your response very interesting and insightful. You definitely know some information about some of these pastors that I don't know, but I question your statement that Meyer, in particular, thinks that we create our circumstances/situation, not God. I think that she would definitely not agree with that statement about her faith. From everything I can gather to date, her teachings are very on track with God's Word and she has done a tremendous amount of personal study and has reaped many benefits as a result of following God's Word and changing her life accordingly.
I believe that speaking what you want for yourself and your future is an excellent mindset, particularly for those of us who are anxious. There is not one of us anxious individuals who is not negative and hard on ourselves, and I hear Joyce over and over again saying that you have to know that God loves and you must love yourself before you can grow in your Christian walk and be a victorious Christian. I personally think that that statement is right on the money. In the past I signficantly retarded my spiritual growth because of my anxious attitudes/mindset and negative thoughts. As Carolyn Dickman said on one of the tapes in the program, I had a "religion", but not a faith. I was constantly beating myself up for not being the perfect Christian and trying to come up with a huge list of sins every night to ask God to forgive me for.
I don't believe that any one person on this earth has all of the answers - only God does - and the bottom line is that He is the ONLY one we should be relying on, but I have just found for myself that Meyer's teachings on fear, anxiety, self-love, righteousness and peace are really in line with the Bible and have been a tremendous help to me in my spiritual growth.
Just a few thoughts - hope you don't mind my two cents!

I can't imagine any of Joyce's tape series not being good. I've heard lots of her series on TV or radio - I agree that "The Cause and Cure for Worry" is good, also "Where the Mind Goes, The Man Follows". I am currently listening to an excellent series called "I'm OK and I'm on My Way". It is a reminder that none of us are perfect here on this earth and won't be until we meet Jesus in heaven one day. It is an excellent series for those of us who are perfectionists. I've also just recently heard an ordered, "The Redemptive Names of God" - also excellent.
The thing about Joyce Meyer is that she knows a lot about where we are or have been as anxious people. She also struggled with anxiety, negative thinking, etc. so all of her series are filled with tips on how to be more positive and productive.
I don't know if anyone would be interested in this, but maybe we could share our tapes. I'm sure we could somehow copy them and mail them to each other so that we wouldn't all have to buy all of the series. We can still then send a donation to her ministry if we want to - just a thought.

I got the tapes last week and have only listened to the first one, but I can tell you from that one that they are great! So eye-opening and so comforting at the same time. I recommend them to anyone. Also, I ordered a book she wrote enititled "Be anxious for nothing" and it is really good so far also. I am about 1/2 way thru it and it's really been a blessing to me. And, she's a pretty funny writer sometimes, too! Anyway, I really recommend both to anyone who is interested. Best of luck!

I think Battlefield of the Mind is great and I am a very conservative Christian. I think there has to be faith and truth mixed. I know a lot of conservatives who are solely into theology and they seem to lack faith or passion. Anyways, I think that book was great. On the other hand, I agree with Joe-Kenneth Copeland and the others he mentioned are what I would call false teachers. Beware! Anyways, I LOVE Charles Stanley. His messages have touched my life in so many ways. What a great pastor!!! Another book that I would recommend for anyone is called. Lord, if its Warfare teach me to stand. It is a great study on spiritual warfare by Kay Arthur.
